Illurstrator format

Folks am trying to get some personalised work done for work and the few companies i've sent the JPEG image to have said i need to have it in "Illurstrator" format, what's that ? and how do i change the image i have ?

    it is an "xxxxx.ai" file. the best thing to do is mail the jpeg to someone one on here with illustrator installed and they will save it in ai for you. If you still have no luck before sunday send the jpeg to me and ill sort you out
