Thinking of getting some for my Sony LCD......Are they worth buying or stick to the cheap jobbys......Can you tell the difference in the picture??

A lot of them are gold plated these days, even the cheap ones, and yes you can tell the difference in picture quality, the key is to go for some decent quality ones which will be gold plated anyway, look to spend about £20-£30 for some good ones, or about 10%-15% of your home cinema cost.

gold plating lowers the contact resistance of teh conection, not much good if teh thing your connecing to isn't gold plated.

much more important in a scart lead is the cable, cheap ones are lots of single cables with an overall screen, better cables have individual screens around the video and audio cores. this improves teh image lots especially if watching RGB signals as it reduces crostalk in the cable.

Gold scarts it is then............. makes sense really, spend a grand on a nice telly then connect it to the sky box with scarts from the pound shop:mac1:

Yep thats right.

Don't just go on whether it's got gold connectors - some really sh!te cables have gold ends on these days but the cable inside is terrible.

What's the point of getting a great connection and it never corroding if the bit in between is crap?

It's even more important if you need a long cable over 3m or so.

I'd spend at least £30 on a Scart from a well known cable brand if it's to connect a decent source to your TV, you WILL notice the difference.

On the other hand, as you may have seen on The Gadget Show the other night when they reviewed HDMI cables it's not worth spending much on those.

It's digital so the signal either gets there or it doesn't, the cable quality can't degrade the final output.

They tried a HDMI for a tenner against one costing £120 and couldn't tell the difference.
