going back when I was SW REO i found i very difficult to accomodate the guys doen in Devon and Cornwall as it would be a fair distance for them to travel if a meeting was arranged in gloucester or bristol. Now we have the REO in devon its seems the other way around, allthough Lisa is doing a great job i feel the region is too large for one REO.

What do others think?

i know where your coming from, before there was a S/E Yorks section, we came under the North East/ Yorks region. That was one big area!! now there is a S/E Yorks section, we do not have a big member base but it means people that could not get to meets so far away can at least attend a get together.

We have a lot of curries, pub meets etc (well just getting together and getting pi55ed really lol). We can still attend the N East/N Yorks meets (Sutton Bank for instance) but since the change i got to meet a lot more local members and make some people i class as damn good friends.

I suppose it has made 300zx.co.uk meets more accessible for all!

Nothing to stop others within the region arranging meets. No need to split up the regions into new sections.

Although you have to have members showing an interest to cater for them...even when we have Meets around Bristol we get very few Bristol and Gloucester members attending anyway, and most of those that do attend have travelled from much futher south.

We've also got a northerly meet arranged for April with the Castle combe action day, which is closer for Bristol and Gloucester members than most of the south west....yet just 1 person from that area puts there name down and eveyone else is from much further away.

but we used to have pretty big meets in the SW, lots of those mmebers are still around. There are a few cars in bristol now and Gloucester seems to have a fair few too. if it was split there could be one meet avery 3 months on the border between the 2. Farthest south I went was WSM when i arranged them which was unfair on the Devon/Cornwall lot. I just think we should get as many people out in their cars as possible, you know what our first meet was like dave it was me you and greg but I built on it and you built on it further so we had great meets.

Oh no one care to discuss this with my b4 deciding?

I am doing it as fair as I can, more meets are closer to Bristol and Gloucester than Cornwall, it is difficult but if no one wants to travel out of there area its not my fault...I travel at least 100 mile each end of the country, and I am in the middle really. Never said no one could not arrange there own meets in there areas which Cornwall have done and Gloucester have too. But, if any one feels that they want to do the job as SW REO and have the head ache I get trying my best, feel free to mention it...

I stepped in cos my mate Anna wanted me to BTW not cos I asked to do it

I am not very happy about this thread...You guys up there have never tried to come slightly south for a change to attend a meet...I am really offended on how you think I am trying to arrange these meets

I'd like to have comments from the 'Cornish' as they prob think they were left out b4. I am in the middle of the region..Have your local meets, its good to meet up and have a yap, but there are far more meets up Bristol way, just a shame you guys from Gloucester dont want to drive your z'ds and enjoy them

P.S. Had this same convo with the cornish about attending meets in Bristol, and now they are trying to make an effort to travel, which I very much apprieciate

Going to be a great meet on Sunday too, alllll welcome :D

Also, if you want to have a separete REO you have my count, less stress on me......... :headvswal

just a shame you guys from Gloucester dont want to drive your z'ds and enjoy them

it not we dont want to drive to them we used to have more meets in gloucester or closer but in the last 12 month nothing in this area, dave and marcus will tell you i used to drive to the more southerly meets if i was not working, i never used to mind as we had something regular this way, but so far all we have had in last 2 years is jan 2006 gloucester, aug 2006 ross on wye, jan 2007 gloucester, and the gloucester meet just passed, all arranged by myself or allan!! i currently do not have time to drive more than a hour to attend a meet as i am very busy with work commitments so i think your comment is unjust, especially when we were told we would have a meet in gloucester every 3rd month or there abouts and to get one allan had to arrange it himself, now bearing in mind south west goes up as far as tewksberry, winchcombe, forest of dean, etc it is a very large area i think personally it should be split weston super mare ish so there is a top and bottom half so to speak,i dont mind travelling to bristol/weston if i do not have work and have time to do it but that is my limit to how far i would travel.

Totally support lisa on this one, shes doing a sterling job in a massive region , main problem is that a meet is now something special for me as the cost of optimax is cutting down on my pleasure driving, filling up and using a tank and a half for one trip to bristol and back is now out of my range as that fuel will last me 4/5 good country drives down here on some of the most challenging roads around, dont get me wrong i love the community spirit that the meets engender but I bought the car to enjoy and if a long distance meet removes that from me then I will not go, having said that I do believe there are now enough Z's in the plymouth to penzance area that we could show some of the larger regions up with local meets( more people buying Z's down here because of the fantastic drives?) and it now warrants having a north south divide on the region, if this happens lisa gets my vote for the southern REO as once again let me state i believe she is doing a great job.

On a side note do you all know sunday streetwars is back on at the dragstrip?

correct me if im wrong but i dont think marcus has brought this up to offend anyone,

i think what he is saying is it might make things easier to split it and give some others who find it difficult to afford to drive there cars along distance a chance to meet some local people , with a few closer meets :)

next meet Bridgwater services? That's about 1.5 hrs for cornwall/gloucester members. Agree with Lisa and as has been mentioned there is Castle Combe next month which is closer to Gloucester than Penzance!

As i said in my first post i think Lisa is doing a great job, I myself had the same when i did it because I got hassle of the Devon Cornwall group as i didnt do much down their way. There area is just too big for Lisa to be able to keep everybody happy, i wouldnt want her to get offended she has bought a close nit group in Devon/Cornwall that we never had before which is great.

It is a discussion and not a decision. I think the club will look at it and make a decision after speaking with yourself. We are only members and we just make suggestions not decisions.

As i said I think you are doing a great job, i think Anna and Dave did aswell. Its just that since I have been a member the West Country and the South West have tended to be quite seperate. I know you have never seen me at a meet, mainly due to my zed being off the road for 16 months, but before that I was a regular.

TBH when I was the SW REO I wished they split the region, would have made my life easier.

i can understand what both of you are saying, but ive not long joined so maybe i should keep quiet lol:D

i'd love to go right down south to meet everyone but work and stuff its hard,

hey heres a idea for everyone a holiday in (st Ives / meet) week or weekend?

It is a large area and under the current climate of high fuel costs, travelling too far for a meet will obviously cause concern, but surely people don't just want to drive their cars around their local towns and cities. The joy of a Zed is driving it on the open roads and feeling the power. Most meets are on Sundays so time and traffic are more relaxed. Personnally, I like travelling and seeing other counties. Your doing a top job Lisa.!!

Yep... and Japfest the following month !

Well said this man....

But for example from Bristol to Penzence is over 3 hours each way and will cost £70.00 in fuel from Bristol. Japfest is more of a National Event not a REO event.

It was just a suggestion and it will just have to stay how it is with independant mini meets being arranged. Didnt mean to ruffle feathers but seems this has been the case, surely we would want something that would get more zed owners out in their cars meeting up.

I'm just an outsider who has been following this thread with interest as, although I'm in the SC region (Swindon), I am nearer to Bristol and Gloucester than the SW members in Devon/Cornwall.

Lisa, please do not be offended by what the guys are discussing.....it is NOTHING to do with critisising you in ANY WAY! In fact, all the posts I've seen are saying exactly the opposite, that you are doing a REALLY GREAT JOB!

IMO what is being discussed is the distances that have to be covered when SW meets are arranged at one end of SW region or the other. Time and costs appear to be an important factor for several of the members who have posted their comments here.

Don't take the 'REGIONAL' splits too seriously. I believe the club was regionally organised in the way it is to enable LOCAL meets to be organised by LOCAL members. Members from ANY region can AND DO attend these 'local' meets, they do not have to live within the said region in order to attend. We in the SC actively encourage members from other regions to attend our meets and many of us also attend other regions meets. I am sure (in fact I know) the same situation applies to your SW region.

Again, as an outsider, it seems some of your members think the SW region is too large and it is becoming too expensive, in terms of cost AND time, to attend ALL the SW meets and they would be able to attend more meets if they were more local to them. It therefore seems to me a good idea to have two regions instead of the one.......each region's members are still able to attend the others meets in the same way that every member in every region is entitled to do.

As I've already said Lisa, you're obviously doing a great job for your region judging by the comments made by your members, nothing that has been said has even a hint of critisism .....keep up the good work...and it may be that having two regions will enable more of our members to attend LOCAL meets more often.

Good luck with your discussions and final decision.

Problam with the SW is there is a big gap of nothing in the middle. Most members either live on the coast or around the north of the area.

Nothing against people from Taunton, well unless its Greg lol

Swindon used to come under the SW, but its one of those areas where your bang inbetween to area's. Most areas centre around a town or city that has quote a few zeds, but as the centre of ours is Taunton, how many zed owners do we have there?

I can see Marcus's point and Lisa i do not think he is trying to step on your toes!

The point he is/has made i feel is quite valid,i for one do not get to the southwest meets as often as i should mainly because of the distance i would have to travel down south, don't get me wrong this is not a fairly vast distance and the cost of fuel isn't a factor either [for me anyways]

But with my work/family ties i do find it difficult, but when we had more local meets i could find the time, you can agree that it is far easier to "POP" to a local meet day or night to catch up on fellow members.

I am not taking any sides here but this might be a solution for the region, and indeed would relieve some stress from Lisa who i again add has done one hell of a job since taking over from Anna.

just my twopenneth :D

I dont think it is a viable option tbh, what about Scotland/Ireland/Wales etc. there in the same boat.
