Most of America populace think it improper to spank children. The other day I was talking to one of my younger buddies about methods used to discipline children.

We talked about "time outs", grounding, holding back "rewards" until the child displayed desired behavior etc. One of the things we discussed was the act of spanking and my friend explained that no, he does not spank any of his children.

He explained that what he does is to take the misbehaving child out for a ride in the car and talk. He said that usually this works and that the child calms down fairly quickly and really doesn't take too much time.

By removing the child, in this case his son, from the immediate situation and providing a change of scenery, the child is allowed to focus on something different. Once the child has the opportunity to change perspective, things get better quickly and the child has better understanding of his place within the family and begins to understand the families concept of acceptable behavior.

He kindly shared a picture of the process which I share with you now.

cant see the pics but my father used to smack me that hard i had red marks, it did me no harm and if i ever do knock one out, it can expect the same treatment as i received when i was naughty.

No do gooder will ever tell me how to discilpine my offspring!!

i can see the pic now lol

You should NEVER hit a child.

It's too obvious and leaves marks. 'Nip' then on the inside of the upper arm. It's very painful for them, discrete in public and doesn't make bruises. ;)

i was 'spanked' as a child, and I've turned out normal, i think! to be honest, i probably deserved it every time i was giving and odd clout around the ear. I don't see anything wrong with it within reason, i don't mean go extreme and wrap a baseball bat around a kids head, but the odd bit of discipline is mandatory i think.. anyways with regards to the post and the picture, thats funny.. but in a real life scenario you couldn't take the kid out for a drive in every circumstance (wipers might get damaged!)

on a serious note.

you get someone to stand in front of me and look me in the eye and tell me that today's society is safer than it was 30 years ago and that children are not a danger to law abiding people.

Discipline is fine, beating isn't but there is a massive difference.

I never got the belt when I was a kid, but the fear of it worked for me.

Love the picture

I think we are to soft on kids today with the no smacking / no cane in school, I had it and I've turned out ok, my son gets a smack if he is naughty.

Look at the state of the country now - to much of the softly softly approach!

We use the Naughty Step in the first instance, If children continue after that then they would get a smack, unless it obvious that that are kicking off because they are tired, then i just put them to bed instead and let them scream themselves to sleep lol.

I was thrashed by my Dad as a child. My teachers would either cane, slipper or ruler me. If I even looked at a copper as I passed I would get a thick ear. If my Dad found out about school or the copper and he invariably did, then I would be thrashed again as they wouldn't have given me enough. Never did me any real harm. However both my boys soon learned to run very fast!

I personally can't see a problem with it.... Kids today are so unruley that a clip around the ear won't do them any harm, but may make them think and learn the difference between right and wrong or at least give them a choice to do right or wrong.

Granted a beating isn't acceptable, you wouldn't beat a dog so why a/your child. However is some little sh1t trashes my Zed, I'll turn the little fker into a basket case.

A neightbour of mine was broken into 3 months back and it was a kid at the end of my street, about 15 yrs old... I had words with him then informed his parents and they got angry and aggressive with me for accusing their son, who nochelantly played the doo eyes and it wasn't me routine.... I nearly lost it there and then but the police turned up and took the little basta...young fella and his dad to the station to discuss the incident. The young fella has since gone on to damage cars and property, and I awaiting my turn, in which case a thorough beating will be on the cards because he can't be prosecuted at 15 unless he kills someone. ASBO's waste of time....and kids nowadays know their rights far better than we did when we where 15....if an adult shouted oi to us...we legged it. Now they stand their ground and mouth of whilst drinking their white lightning cider..... My view if they're drinking and mouthing off, they're old enough for kicking. As far as I'm concerned they're adult as they've been buying booze in the first place. Fair game in my book.

funny how naughty girls love a spank though? cant be all that bad then :)

I had the back of my legs slapped a couple of times...

Normaly the threat of it happening done the trick

I certainly agree with smacking naughty children. The problem is, whenever it's discussed by the media, the goodie-goodies can't distinguish between smacking and beating so they advocate banning everything. No wonder we have wrinklies like me being intimidated by young yobbo's who make us scared to go out at nighttime.

I'm a bit worried about some of the comments on this thread referring to 'kickings' and 'thrashings'.........I think this type of violence is going too far and doesn't get the desired results which is RESPECT, a word which no longer seems to exist in youngster's vocabulary.

Or burn the soles of their feet with a hot crack pipe. ;)

a phonebook leaves no bruises ,well ,it works for the cops anyway lol
