Busy downloading some music from Pirate Bay.

On of the files I've just downloaded won't play with Windows Media Player or Nero.

The tracks are all FLAC files. What are they and what software do I need to listen/record to cd?

if your downloading from torrent site you will want to sownload the K Lite mega codec pack. just install it and then you can use media player or anyother player to play the files. it also has all the video codecs as well

I've downloaded Winamp and converted them with that.

I guess I should be now able to use Nero to burn to CD?

yup.. should work if you've converted.
