October 23, 200618 yr so how come i always fill in the bit to dvla informing its been written off..... and hand the log book in... WTF do they do with it i assume you mean when people want to inform them when car is written off/scrapped, the above is for accident damaged cars this is the official ish Cat A - Normally burnt out cars, have to go through the crusher Cat B - Can be broken for parts but cannot go back on the road. Cat C - Uneconimical repair due to extent of damage. Requires a VIC (vehicle identity check) to go back on the road. This will show on V5. Cat D - Uneconomical repair due to cost of parts and supplying hire car. Normally fairly light damage. Cat X - Normally very minimal damage, ie stolen recovered with lock damage
October 23, 200618 yr if a car is written off by the insurance company it will require a VIC check before a log book is issued, when you recieve the log book it will say on it that the vehicle was was written off or damaged. you sometimes get lucky when the insurance company hasnt notified the dlva that the car is a write off, so if you buy a written off car without a log book i'd reccommend you phone the dlva to see if there is a mark against it. if there is no mark your laughing becuase the car has a clean title, if not you simply apply for a VIC check but the vehicle will have a write off title and will have a lower value
as above if a car is written off does it show on the log book
