Off to Barcelona next week for my 30th and quite fancy getting an inexpensive DV camera to film stuff while I'm there. I'm seriously thinking about buying this tomorrow: http://www.loadsmorestuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=972

the Aiptek Mini Pocket DV8900.

Just spent over a grand on new camera equipment so really looking for something that's just a fun gadget rather than a semi-pro set-up and this seems to be up to the job (and falls into my £200 or under price bracket...I can get this one for £129.99 all in).

Any thoughts guys? If anyone can recommend a better DV camera for this kind of money I'd be interested in hearing what it is...all input gratefully received! :)

Well if you fancy travelling the 351km to valencia i'll get you a pint in and you can have a look at my camera lol :D I'll be there from friday till next friday.

Camera is a 7 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 7600 (looked at the 7800 for 50 quid more but you just got a bigger screen which sucked up the battery) for £199 that shoots fantastic video at 30fps 640x480 with a great colour balance (check out the jae promo dvd next week)

If you tone the res down you can get 13 mins on a 256meg SD card at 320 x 240 or 4 mins on full whack. I'm moving to a solid state drive dv cam soon as i get the cash but this excellent for a few mins footage and the photos are superb quality especially the macro. it won camera of the month and i've used it for everything from movie shoots to catalogue photos etc

Well, after some thought I decided to go for my original choice, the Aiptek Mini Pocket DV8900...the Nikon Coolpix is a good point and click camera but since I already own a D70S I was really looking for something that was a bit of fun, the archetypal boys toy...and Sweet Jesus and All the Little Orphans it's fantastic!

It's ridiculously tiny (the size of a cigarette packet) and the DV video is excellent! It's no Blair Witch-esque DV film camera but that's not what I wanted. It has the essentials ie image stabiliser, EV adjustment, adjustable white balance, night mode, multi and panoramic shoot (all stills can be labelled with voice notes), SD compatible, a few effects bunged in etc and on top of that it moonlights as a very competent MP3 player, memory storage device, dictaphone, webcam, I can record TV/DVD onto it and to top it off I can easily mount it in the Z! Crackin' stuff, and for £129.99, definately a bloody good buy. Now all I have to do is persuade my girlfriend to help give it a trial run tonight to test recording in "low-lighting" conditions... :wack: :D ;)
