Horrendous bonnet scoop, but needed!!

personally I think the car is ruined. The rotary engine is the defining point of the RX7, without it, it's nothing special, putting a big lumbering V8 in there will have totally screwed up the balance of the car, and will have completely different power deilvery to the high revving rotary.

I agree!

Technically I agree too, but I think the RX7 is the best looking performance Jap on the road, but I didn't buy one because of the reliability issues (and I wasn't as clued up in general back then). Also, the chevy V8 is my fave block so a combination of the two should be great - but I know what you're saying. I suppose the Rex would lose it's 'finesse'.

And he could have done something with that air cleaner couldn't he? I'm sure mantav8's bonnet bulge isn't gonna be that big.

Yep, have to agree with this... very much the point of the R in RX7.

Just to add onto this, RX7's do not have a reliability problem. The engines need rebuilding quite frequently, new rotor tips and water seal, but once thats done, they are more dependable than any zed.

I'm not trying to argue the point, as I'm not that technically knowledgable, but engines that "need rebuilding quite frequently" do not fall into my 'reliable' category. Regular servicing and basic maintenance is about my limit to keep a good engine going strong, but necessary rebuilds? Not for me.

Shame, 'cos I fookin' love 'em to look at :D

Z's are still best overall tho ;)

Especially mine

Pardon?

PMSL.

Have to agree with peach, RX7s look sh1t hot, but the engine rebuild problem is just fookin rediculous, and the rotor tip can just go at anytime without any prior warning.

An engine rebuild every 30K mile does not equal reliability. Probably one of the most unreliable jap cars ever built.

And then there is the fuel economy and build quality issues. Shame really, I like the looks, although I cant comfortably fit in one either (too tall).

Pardon?
