took my mirrors off today for a good clean, when they fold i can see all the crap in the joints and there usually loads of crap behind the glass of the mirror.
first i removed the door card and then the mirror bolt cover, removed the 3 bolts holding the whole mirror assembly on didnt take long to get off but had to unscrew the door speaker plate to pull the cable through.
When i got it in i had to also remove the cables from the cable holder, i took pics of the locations so i can put back in correct order.
undid the 3 screws under the mirror and seperated the two pieces, then firmly pulled glass away from mirror backing. there are 4 clips that hold the mirror on, when the first two on the one side lifted the mirror rotated up and i uncliped the other two.
I then unscrewed the moto assy and seperated the two case halfs.
as you can see the parts were stinking dirty, so i stripped them all and then cleaned them with hot water and a degreaser/cleaner.
i used a foam pad with a rough back, same as you use for washing up!!
cleaned with the rough side first rubbing very gently to get the real stubborn crap off and out, then used the degreaser again.
i then got some very fine wet and dry out and gave the case a light sanding to remove any surface scratches, and used colour coded t-cut.
when ready i then applied some polishing compund and used the polishing bit on my dremel tool, used several pads for this. i got it looking very good, then applied some finishing wax, i let it dry and then buffed. they came out a treat!!
