Wow what a difference that makes!! even though I was not used to the Z as I have not driven it for over a month and stalled it at the lights :wack: LOL the pulley really does make a real difference, one thing I notice is I dont have to put my foot so far down on the go pedal for the revs to increase  But I will give it another go in the daylight tommorow as I have to wear the new tyres in, but soon I can drive it again like it's meant to be driven

the unorthadox is the only one to go for bud,and is off the correct weight, none of the cheap shit of ebay :wack:

Cool - sounds like a good mod.

I'm guessing it drives something at a lower rate than standard - what is it? Can it ever cause a problem?

Drives the cooling fan / alternator a little slower but I have had mine fitted for a fair while now and not noticed any problems and I have after market guages fitted so I can keep an eye on such things.

where from? how much? whats involed fitting? sound like a top mod

I was about to ask that too!

How much for the part?

How much for fitting?

(I'm just after general answers not asking anyone specific what they paid!)

£150 for the pulley from Smithys.

As for fitting it remove the radiator, fan, and all the drive belts get a 3 legged puller and a 27mm socket and a torque wrench up to 250 ftlbs and once you have all this its almost done as new pulley comes with all new belts.

Got mine from Smithy with his usual 100% perfect service cant fault the guy. Cant remember the price, sorry.

i have th unorthodox pulley set fitted, quality bit of kit

Yeah mate I wanted the set including all the pulleys but I could not afford it :( and the others being light weight would not make any real noticeable difference I would'nt have thought??

How long did all that take?

Takes abot 1/2 a day if that to just do that, I spent 3 weeks doing that and more. LOL

I could fit an Unorthodox pulley in a about half a day now easy.

It looks a lot worse than it is honestly mate, the barsteward of a job is removing the Crank pulley, mine is a manual so I just stuck it in 5th, Autos might be harder but I do'nt know??

I've got one on mine and it is a great mod.

Really makes the engine rev up quicker, especially if you've got a lightened flywheel too.

I have read up on that also mate and I was led to believe there was not much real noticable difference with it??

A lightened flywheel has more affect than a lightened pulley.

Hmmm maybe next time I get a week off I'll have a go

That post completely disuputes everything else I have read......I've read many times about the mininal(but noticable) difference a LW Pulley makes, but the very significant difference a LW Flywheel makes.

I've no experience of the LW flywheel affects(just reviews and others experiences), only the LW Pulley.

Well if taking a lot of weight off the pulley makes a difference then taking loads off the flywheel on the other side of the crank will obviously have exactly the same effect :headvswal

I had a small alloy pulley on my lwb.

I still have it - I never noticed any probs with car so would it be worth fitting it to my shortie or would you recommend binning it and buying an unorhodox so I know its a good un.

Thing is it could be an unorthodox and I dont wanna chuck away £150.

Is there any way of telling?

If its Unothodox it has the name moulded into the rim of the pulley, it could be an SGP one which is also good, Smithy will be able to tell you how to identify one of those hopefully. The ones to stay clear of are the cheap ebay jobbies.

yup!!

both mods together make a very noticable difference

In that case when I can afford to I will have that done also. :)

I assume the underdrive pulley is not only lighter than the original but drives the alternator / fan at a lower speed as it's smaller so puts less load on the engine.

That would be why it can have a more dramatic effect than lightening the flywheel by the same amount.

Just a guess...!
