forgot to mention its the first generation that he is after about a k reg

i used to like them and in no doubt they are quick but im sick of seeing them and being challenged by them (and beating them lol)

depends what it is, my mates got a modified STi that is fookin mental quick! they can launch much faster than any zed, & even when rolling its damn fast.

its down to personal preference really. some people like scoobys but there not really for me. can appreciate the fact that they are nice drivers cars tho! :)

what are they like for servicing and running and the likes of that

ok i had a series 1 L reg , 1) u cant guarentee the milage as its a jap import, 2) yes they are quick but very prown to detting and pinking !! 3) i had my Sti-RA for 3 months and it blew up twice not even running mental boost !! and it was professionally tuned by scoobysport and was given tip top health by them too. 4) tuning ability is pretty shite unless u wanna spend a shite load of cash. Once u get to 300bhp is gonna cost a small fortune to get past it !!

Personally i loved the car until it went wrong , loads of power , sound nice but common as fook.

Remind him that from the factory imprezzas are fitted with unequal length manifolds and as such every engine is unbalanced from the factory. Also they look a little boring, are driven by all the people who used to drive cosworths, novas and renault gt turbos, they build up underbonnet heat, have intercoolers on top of the engine and their interiors look like they were designed back in the early 80's.

Respect to them as a great all-round all-weather praticle sports car. But common as muck with cheap plastic interiors.

When they came out they were regarded as the more espensive eclusive version of the Cosworth, which had started to get the "chavvy" sort of image. Now its the other way around !

I had a Celica GT4, and went to testdrive a K-reg WRX about 5 years ago. Came away very unimpressed. Felt like a Quick Hothatch, whereas the Celica GT4 felt like a quick Sportscar. Performance was very similar to the Gt4 and grip was equal but just did'nt feel as special or as well built.

the prob he got is he cant fix cars himself its always to a garage

i know most old performance cars breakdown a lot (i do have a zed youknow lol) but is there any performance cars that you's could recommend that would be realiable

i just dont want him knocking on my door every 5 mins

also someone told me that its an engine out job just to change the spark plugs i dont believe them but does anyone know this for sure (on imprezzas)

Tell him to check all the CV joints as ive heard there weak on the early ones!

Rich

Good smiley car til the left side of the motor distroy's itself, my m8 had what sounded like hydraulic tappet failure or lack of oil pressure to the lifter's, took it to lister's an it cost him £5000 to ave the motor re-built, turn's out it had mashed the valve seat's, screwed the piston's and the barrel's an the head on the left side, then you gotta get the other side done as matter of corse.

An they feel cheap an nasty too, did a track day in an 02 plated wrx at Donnington, it was lost out there against, dare i say it sx200's an the like.

when they first appeared i really liked them, but then again i don't think id ever seen a zed round this area....now adays suburoos are common as muck round ere,you see em every other 5 cars, your lucky to see a zed evenowadays.........GET A ZED...

are driven by all the people who used to drive cosworths, .

I dont think any cosworth owner worth his salt would buy an imprezza, the cosworth engine is much much more tuneable

nice evo, far better

tell him to get a celica gt4 (205 version if he has the money)

I agree, for some reason!! ;)

and yes i do read max power :D

my mate ended up buying a honda prelude, wish i hadnt bothered trying to help him thanks anyway lads

I looked at a lads notsoimpretsa the other day and to my amazment the engine is horizontality opposed. Its no wonder they suffer with number four overheat. I keep takin the pi## and calling it a Beetle engine.
