Advertised a Car for sale on ebay and it sold to a buyer with 1 Feedback and who is fairly new to ebay. He had'nt contacted me to ask any questions..etc, just bidded the £1500 reserve price.

I send Email giving my contact details and the usual...etc and I get the reply back :

DEAR MATE,

THANK YOU FOR THE RESPONDS AND THE INFORMATION I AM REALLY HAPPY TO BE THE WINNING BIDDER OF THE ABOVE SUBJECT. I HAVE SENT YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS TO MY CLIENT TO PREPARE A CHEQUE AND SEND TO YOU FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE ITEM . I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOUR DIRECT PHONE LINE FOR EASY COMMUNICATION.

LOOK FORWARD TO READ FROM YOU SOON

WALTER

Is it just me..or does something not look right here. ? Sound like a foreign translation, the Car is referred to only as "item". There is a "client" involved. Asks me for phonenumber, which I had already given in my email to him.

Sounds like one of those scams where they send you a dodgy

cheque for about 3x the amount, take the vehicle, asking you to

pass funds on to other people, only for the cheque to bounce!

dodgy as fuke mate! tell him you'll only accept the payment methods that you advertised along with the car, and follow the usual feedback/complaints process of ebay.

Yes looks like yet another ebay rip off ****er! :mac1: You have to have your guard up on there

I got done for just under £700 last month the seller had 100% + feedback too and just because he lives 270 miles away I bet he thinks he has got away with it :nono: :xxx: :x:

It is a very common Nigerian scam. They send you a bankers draft generally which is either a copy or stolen and in the meantime will have expected you to foot the export costs and they say they will account for expenses in the draft! The next thing you realise is your car is gone and you have a worthless piece of paper! Report it to Ebay but TBH they don't do much about it.
