I was listening to Radio Wales this afternoon and I heard there's a big meeting taking place tonight between Farmers, Hauliers and the likes to discuss action regarding rising fuel prices and taxation. I thought about this for a while and realised that their timing couldn't be better, if the Government don't back down this time then they'll lose the General Erection. :D They sounded really determined this time and said they would "Do what they do in France". The radio interviewer said "But don't you think you'll be very unpopular" to which the farmer replied "Why? everyone is against rising fuel costs". Let's hope it does happen but this time I hope they don't listen to made up stories about the emergency services being crippled - what a load of shite.

Well it is about time some thing was done, but on the other hand i am a tanker driver so i don't want to loose work or wages.......:(:(

Sarge - i don't think that your employer could dock you wages - the reason you cannot drive your tanker is out of your hands! I do hope that a blockade happens and that the gov't listens, although not if it means drivers / depo workers are loosing income:(

yes agreed something needs to be done, but imo far from the right time

as goverment has now been dissolved, so any matters of policy can't be taken up until after the election, so what are they going to do blockade until after may 5th?? who are they going to threaten labour/tories??

should have been done weeks ago if it was going to have any effect and to make them worry about their jobs, what are the goverment going to back down from?? and to be honest i can't see any of them promising to cut fuel now with the pie in the sky policies theyre all proposing to win the election :(

Well I don't quite understand this, the reason for the fuel prices going up is not directly linked to increased taxation. I would look to the middle east and the US to be more precise.

Iraq war is more likely the direct culprit and reason for the price of oil rocketing.

Longer those American Idiots (we know a song about that don't we?) spend in Iraq f\/cking things up on a daily basis then the more intense things will become where the rising price of oil is concerned.

So yeah the Farmers can moan all they want but I work for the govt. agency that pays those moaning yokel MO FO's and if you saw some of the payments they receive in subsidies you'd be asking yourselves WTF they have to complain about!!!

All the same timmy, a lot of the price of fuel is actually tax, so if the gov't reduce the tax then the price will come down regardless of the yanks and their fruitless war

Too True!!

Fair comment!

I don't really care anyway as I'm a contractor and claim my mileage back anyway. ;) Which is why I'm now driving a gas guzzeling Omega Elite Auto 3.0 litre 24valve filled regularly to the brim with Optimax at nearly a pound a litre. 'ave it!!! ROFLMFAO

Oh and the MR-2 gets Optimax on a regular basis and when the 300 is back once more unto the breach that can have some Optimax aswell. Farmers get red diesel anyway so again WTF are they moaning about?

noone i knows gets free fuel though, good luck to the farmers, it effects a lot of people, americans are complianing they have to pay $2 a gallon!!!! lucky bastids

noone i knows gets free fuel though...

PMSL  That's coz you don't know any farmers Mikey Mike! ;)

Farters get red diesel to fill up their 150,000 pound Lambo tractors which I think is tax free and only for agricultural use! Which is why the rozzers stop haulage firms and check their trucks tanks to see if they are being cheeky monkeys and using red diesel...naughty naughty if you get caught.

spot on m8:)

i will never pretend to understand the subsidies farmers receive and WHY?

if i run my business, and it meets hard times would the goverment pay/help me? or pay me not to produce my goods, if i ran a kennels and all my dogs died of a disease would they compensate me (yeah right) so why did the farmers get compensation during the foot and mouth outbreak? as sad as it was and no doubt it wrecked some areas, you or me would have to have insurance to cover ourselves, as i said i don't understand half the reasons they are given TAXPAYERS money to run their business's, but a farmer would be the last person i would be following into any dispute:(

as for lowering fuel tax, can't remember the last time any goverment lowered a tax on ANYTHING, so can't see that happening, they will freeze it maybe to hopefully keep us all quite, north sea oil was supposed to be our godsend, and what do we do EXPORT IT :headvswal

You're right about farmers, a) they always plead poverty and b) They do get large subsidies but I'm more concerned about the poor old lady down the street who can't afford heating oil and us not being able to fuel our Zeds

Yeah I can understand the haulage firms getting the @rse over fuel prices as it does hit them really hard! Imagine running a fleet of trucks like what da Stobart has and even an increase on DERV by 1p must hit that truck running MO FO like the Titanic hitting an iceberg! Not good! :(

But let me put this to ya...how many farmers do you know that live in a B&Q shed to support their livestock at whatever cost or disaster that hits them?

When did you last see a farmer driving around in a Lada Niva 4x4 instead of the fleet of brand spanking new Shoguns, Forresters, Range Rovers etc. etc. that they ALWAYS drive around in!

I know farmers in N. Wales who have brand new Lambo tractors which they have bought from the Anglesey show and generally write a cheque out on the day for it. FFS wake up, like I said I actually see what some of these farmers are receiving per head of cattle to subsidise them, all they have to do is feed the f\/cking moo moo's and bah bah's and keep pocketing the tax payers hard earned.

So I would say that yeah fuel taxation is a pain but ask yourself where that tax is going? Back to the farmers who are moaning about it coz they're too thick to realise that fuel is paying for them to send their Deliverance offspring to agricultural college in Aberystwyth at 5K a term to learn to mow grass and feed dumb animals. ;)

i know i don't care, but they are standing up for the whole country, i don't care if they don't' get anything out of it, selfishly all i care about is if they lower the cost of petrol for me,

i do know a farmer :D my great uncle :p

FPMSL

ah the big question WHERE IS OUR TAX GOING?!? i would really like to see on paper where every tax pound / borrowed pound the gov't recieved last year went. Pound for pound. I can guarantee the money you put in (income tax, fuel tax, booze tax, Value added tax, cigraette tax, import duty etc.) does NOT equal the benefits you gain from paying this tax. Call me delfish but i work f00king hard for my money as i'm sure you all do, so why should other's benefit? Also why do we pay so much for fuel when the yanks can have it for 33p per litre?

My mate lives in Belgium, standard tax rate is 50 percent but at least they produce decent lager! LMFAO :D

I'm glad to see that you share the same hatred for Anglesey farmers and as I do! Most of them are councillors in disguise and we know what they get up to around here. Remember all the corruption back in the early 90's - Shell Rhosgoch etc. I work with someone who is knows exactly how rich these fookers really are and we're talking millions.

You must be on a different planet to me then!

Why would you want further restrictions and taxes on motoring, gps devices fitted to your car so they know where you are and what speed you're doing, no smoking or picking your nose in the car, generally more nannying and bureaucratic waste. AKA Labour policys.

I dont understand how any keen motorist can vote Labour or even worse Lib Dem, or how about the greens ffs!

Atleast the conservatives aren't quite so bad in comparison!

Obviously you're unaware of the damage done to British industry under Baroness Thatcher. I'm not entirely happy with any of the parties' policies but I would never vote them in again.

Go on Timmy give it some. You can have my vote.

I know loads of em living out here (they windge even more than you Tim :slap:. I know its hard to believe  ) . Beef and sheep farmers. 100's of thousands of £££'s of new kit every year.

I know two who personally call the subsidies Discovery Money, because they use some of it to by a new discovery every year.

Sorry to hear that, but I'm talking about and living in the present, not the past.

????????????actually thats what most people do, you go to a garage and get scammed you certainly don't go back years later even if it changes ownership, and the tories have slightly changed ownership, but problem is the shite mechanics still wield spanners, michael howard was an apprentice under thatcher, in the last tory election the tories themselves voted howard 5th OF FIVE, and decided hague was the man, now suddenly he's the answer to their prayers??ffs if anne widdlecombe thinks howard is a joke what chance have they got of being elected??????????????

If you lent someone your cars ten years ago and they kept writing them off then you would hardly feel inclined to do the same today. The fact is that the demise of industry in this country affected and still affects us today. What once made Britain great sadly is no more and unfortunately we're just another European tax-funded Nation
