A question to any/all website guru's ...

I have come across a few websites who have managed to protect their images from downloading by right-clicking and save-as actions. Some of them just don't download at all, others put up a dialog box saying the picture is copyright protected, click ok to continue.

I generally don't care if people nick images from websites (so long as they are properly credited if re-used on other websites) but one of my new projects will have images belonging to other companies. It would probably be a good idea to have something like this implemented.

Any information on how I can achieve this would be most appreciated.

Can still get around that,

basically keep right clock depressed, select ok with left button, let go of right button and up pops the save image as menu ;) (there are clever scripts that bypass this with a click off function)

or you can drag it into a new window or editor, or save the whole page onto your HDD.

As Mike says, It can make it harder for non web-savvy people to steal the images, but wont entirely prevent them.

..when all else fails....Print screen button and Image editing software does the trick too.

If couse there is nothing stopping people using the images. If they want them they will get them. All you can do it make it a bit harder.

At the end of the day you can hit the print screen button (which copies a snapshot of your display into the clipboard), open paint or photoshop or something and simply paste and save. Don't think there is a way of suppressing this.

the only way to guarantee credit to the intellectual owner is to doctor the image with some kind of banner that says who the owner is. trouble is if you put this across the image it ruins it, and if you put it off to the side it can be trimmed off.

Thanks for all the feedback guys - much appreciated. As you say, it'll never be able to completely stop people nicking images off a website but if I can make it a bit more difficult then that would be a good thing. Going to have a look at all you've suggested.

Thanks!
