I'm looking at getting a single phase 2 post lift soon but can anyone tell me which is better - electro-mechanical or electro-hydraulic and why?

I was seriouslythinking about something like this too. Trouble is you need a very tall garage !

It's going outside, just need to protect the motors.

both have advantages, electro mechanical will have a direct drive from one post to the other, usually in the form of a drive in the base, so you get a raised section to drive over (unless you sink it into the ground.

ย

electro hydraulic are connected via a hydraulic line (suprisingly enough!) from one side to the other which can be run on a tall frame work over the ramp, or sunk into the ground.

ย

the mechanical types i prefer because they are more direct, when you take your finger off the button they stop there & then. hydraulic ones drop down until they engage the locks.

ย

this can be annoying when you want to move the ramp exact amounts like when dropping an engine out for example.

HTH

I 'Kin HATE hydraulic ramps.....

ย

I used to work in a garage that had a hydrualic SINGLE post ramp.

1 big fat ram in the middle.....

ย

It went up OK, but when you released the valve to let it down, it used to sit there, and then drop like a frickin stone!!

ย

It scared the crap outta me when I lowered a Jag XJ6 (not the lightest of cars!) and I opened the valve nice and slow, and it sat there for about 3 seconds and dropped about 3 or 4 feet, blew some of the seal AND concrete around the post out and bounced back up a bit....

horrible.....

ย

I personally dont like getting under anything that doesn't have a physical thing stopping it squashing ya

Hope that helps

i agree with the mechanical ones how much roughly do they set you back vijay?

Nothing wrong with Hyraulic lifts!!-Just had a two post 5.5 tonne one put in at work. It's the bo**ocks!

Goes up nice stops where you want, comes down nice and controlled even with a 7.5 tonne truck on it![empty of course  ] it stand 5 metres high with the gantry over the top so nothing to trip over!

Auto cut-out if the vehicle goes up too high and mechanical safety locks.

Ohh...and it's SINGLE phase!!!!

I was looking at a hydraulic lift which was coming in at the 2K mark fitted. I remember someone saying to me that the problem with single phase mechanical lift is the strain it puts on the motor and screws - any truth in that?
