Was just tootling back from a (very) late shift at work and decided to put my foot down. Happened to glance at my (aftermarket) boost gauge and I was pushing 17/18psi!!!!

Said "Errrr, what the f**k" out loud to myself and backed down pretty sharpish!!! Gonna have to be real careful till I get my Blitz controller in!!! I'm running a JWT ecu and what i thought were 1mm jets, bit sound more like 0.8's!!!!!

Christ i hit 19 yesterday!!! is it ok to spike up this high just for half a second before backing right off?

considering that tuners try to get rid of spikes in turbo boost, I would say that its bad.

Half a second is all it takes to blow a plug or hole a piston :D

I wouldnt go anywhere near WOT until you get it sorted mate or better yet pull the boost jets until you are ready to fit your EBC, would hate to see another person on here need a rebuild... :(

thanks for the advice guys. how im achieving such high boost is a mystery to me. thankfully work is such a short distance away that the Z barely gets time to warm up for me to dare put my foot down anyway (plus the fact ive still only got 2 gears:( and am awaiting a conversion)

Hitting that kind of boost may suggest the actuators are not getting a signal from the intake and aren't opening the wastegates. Check all the actuator hoses are connected and that there are no kinks in them ;)

thats a good suggestion Andy. i'll read up on how to do that. she's just lost two cylinders yesterday - hope thats not related :( :(

Oh **** :( Compression test sooner than later. If there's bits floating around in there you really don't want them getting out past the valves and into the turbos ;)

Just as a cautionary measure of course ;) Not saying its deffo related :)

i cant believe it - ive just been outside and relocated the ptu connection, got back in at it worked fine. so turned it off, praised God, used a wire clip to keep the connection secure and now its gone naff again :( no matter how much i play with the connection its back to 3 or 4 cyls. checked every connection i can see. did notice these two things tho:

a) black oil gathering in bottom of zorst, which is blowing light grey smoke

b) when i throttle the driver-side bank there is a weird sucking sound from somewhere below the centre of the driver-side plenum, sounds exactly like someone sucking through a straw. passenger side doesnt make this noise.

any ideas as im this close to getting rid of the car :(

ok this is freaking me out. took the car to work after writing the above post and it was FINE!!!!

even on the way back! i fingered the zorst (ooer) and it was a bit damp (had been raining) but no oil and no smoke.

is the Z doing an impression of a psychopathic ex-girlfriend, or has the problem sorted itself out, or will it all go to pot again tomorrow? and will i ever sort my gearbox out? stay tuned.
