hope somebody can help

 

purchased a 512mb ddr upgrade for my pc, but when i try to fit it it makes my pc crash and the i have to recover the system32/config files. its the same spec as the one i had 184pin 2100 memory.

 

am i doing something wrong or is there something else i cant see

Sure your MOBO can take that much memmory and also it could have a differnent speed ie 100/133/266 or could and most likely be crap memory that need changing.

its the right spec memory and the pc can take more than the 512 and 256 already in there

Have you tried with only the new memory chip?

i knew it mean motherboard, i was just going off on one..

 

anyway i was always led to belive ( with my vlimited pc knowledge ) that the ram speed? ie 333 or whatever must match the mother board bus? speed .. do they match? my terminology is probably wrong but u might get my drift!!
