Hi guys,

Just on my way back from the bristol meet.

Saw a jag xk8 on the way home on an unlisted private stretch of road, looked similar to the motorway.

He was being a bit of a twat and under taking me and cutting me up then slowing down for a bizzare reason.

Anyways after a while, I called him a ****er and floored it, it seemed like within seconds, 140+ was on the clock, the revs rising to the red line.

I was confused that my car wasnt changing gear, it was pulling like **** and I was happy about that but confused as to why I had no fourth gear?

I slowed up confused. Then saw the yellow light on the dash, DOH!

What a twat lol, must have been one of them subconscious actions turning it off lol.

But anyway, other than me being a nob. Have you auto drivers ever floored it on the motorway with OD off? my god it flies, I can not beleive how well third pulls to 140 from about 70mph, its like second gear to 90 all over again. I was gobsmacked! I uaually always have OD on on the motorway because of the high speeds and fuel economy, but with it off third is a complete demon all the way to the red line!!!!! and probably well into it!

Call me stupid, but its not often you get the chance to accelerate to over 140 with overdrive off, by then it usualy changes you into fourth, but there is no need :D

I've owned an Automatic SKYLINE, Automatic 3000 GTO and an Auto 4 Litre Jag and they all sucked which is why I sold em cause they were all old mens cars. I got P155ED all over at Santa Pod on the 1/4 mile by a Scooby in my Skyline and that was a good enough excuse for the crap off the mark Auto to be sold. Now I've got my manual Z I really feel at peace with myself....

I take it you've got a better 1/4 mile time by far then shrimpy then? like I said seeing as hes only got the usualy filter, chip, zorst and running 13.5 psi on stock engine and getting 13's.

What time have you got on the 1/4 with the 555's hybrid tubbies, nos etc? post up a sheet ;) im sure its soooo much better for all the thousands and thousands? or maybe its worse?

I have never seen a manual Z in the club get even close to a 12 sec. Infact I dont think ive ever seen one perform as consistently as shrimpy does.

Why am I using shrimpy as an example? because his is a prime example of a stock engines capabilities with an auto box. Why havnt I got a good time on a 1/4 mile? because I have never ran one in my life, and I've never liked the idea TBH but now im comming round and want to give it a go.

Infact as I said, I dont recall any stock engined or modded manual beating his time, and if they did it they were modded heavily and only beating it by a few tenths lol.

And as for autos are old mens cars? how old are you manual drivers? well im 25 and so certainly aint an old man (not yet ;)) so then manual Z's must be old mens cars to me? how ****ing gay is that?

Manual owners cant take the fact that auto Z's are actualy good cars. If the manual was so superior then prove it on the strip, or better still, if you were all that confident that it was so much better than an auto, you wouldn't all be so up tight and defensive on the whole issue. Sound to me like some of the emanual owners feel a bit uneasy to me.

And why are most of the best drag cars in america auto? they beat the shit out of manuals, GNTT's for example, one of the most dominent and most powerful cars on the strip, and let me see, hmmm they spend 10's of thousands of $$'s and decide to keep an auto box instead of manul?, as do many high power small and big block v8 drag cars, etc etc. Why? because they seem to consistently get better times.

And let me guess manual owners, your just trying to give auto owners a false sense of security by blowing turbos on the drag strip and getting shit times lol.

I think people need to grow up, and not keep saying 'nah nah nah nah nah my cars better than yours, my dads bigger than your dad' what the ****? get a life people.

Another good reason to sell the Z, so many cocks around putting other peoples cars down, and I thought a car club was all about sharing a common interest not slagging each others cars down, yet Tw@ts who own manual cars think for some reason gives them the right to slag off autos at every chance.

Might sound a bit bitter, but im ****ed off with all the school yard comments and arguments occuring now.

Steve

I haven't actually ran a 1/4 mile in either of my Z's yet but when I do don't worry I will be posting up the times...

Don't worry steve you sound more than a bit bitter mate...to come back with a response like that when I am allegedly the one doing the slagging off I suggest that you read back your last post to see who needs to grow up, stop being bitter and who is being as you put it "A COCK"

My comments were only in jest unlike yours and the whole Manual V Auto debate will always be going on forever, long long after you have sold your car...

FFS

Its a Z and thats all that matters..........Auto or Manual

well said chunk

steve

LOL Shrimpy's times are shit :D I got 13.8 running only 0.8bar  That was with ambient temps of 38degrees C

Whats the title of this thread again? That wasn't really asking for any abuse of sludge charriots now was it  ;)

Well, having owned Auto's and now a Manual Z they both have good points and bad,the manual seems a bit more corse to be honest, but great fun,2nd and 3rd gear impressive, where as the auto delivers the power more even/gradual,like it would do.I miss doing 100mph in an auto then flooring it,the change down and power rush is very impressive,of course more driver involvement in a manual, and i am enjoying this, especialy when dropping from third to 2nd and going some, both cars are great, and lets not forget that there are more Auto's than Manuals,so its understandable that it may seem like they go wrong more often, and seeing as theres not enough manuals to go round so to speak, buying an auto is for some the only option.

As for 1/4 mile times etc, well strange one this,no matter whats been spent ,modified, what type box,i have never seen one go better than 12.98sec,(was JN at Elvingdon,in Auto)at 1.2bar,bigger tubs,intercoolers,555,JWT,etc,.I have run a 13.5 a while back, have seen Autos do a 13.3 and Manuals 13.3,in all stages of modifications, infact Colin Ashford ran a 13.1 early in the year and has not run better since,in an Auto!,so take ya pick on either auto or manual, sod all in it really, both great cars.

Must say i am looking forward to MAC's beast, just of late there has been a lack of inclusion with a lot of mags etc with the 300ZX,getting tired of hearing about"this Scooby that fast, fast EVO,fast Skyline, fast Supra, etc etc,my fingers crossed for MAC,lets hope it blows em all away and Z frenzy hits the media.

A few months back i nearly bought a 11sec 1/4 Soarer, just that i wanted to show that non mainsteam jap cars can do quick times and top speed runs,i was getting tired of seeing the same old stuff tearing down the airfields,i did think about going down the same route as Mac,but the cost outwayd the reality, maybe someday i will do it,i have a few ideas,as i think theres a lot more life left in the Z marque yet ;)

:D ,It had the potential to do low 10s,watched it and talked to import company that owned it,they had just got it in and were giving it some runs to see what it could do,the driver was a bit scared to be honest,it did a wheel spin first 250ft and ran a 11.3,i knew it was capable of low tens,i think it will be seen again next year ;) ,somewhere, was running big T78 etc

And the debate still goes and always will guys n gals, as Tony C said theres not really a lot in it between manual and auto. All people need to do is chill out about the subject all I did is say that i think that autos are old mens cars and I am very sorry if I upset anyone.

The impression that I got from your reply steve was that I made a personal verbal assault on you steve and I am sorry if I upset you but that was not my intention at all. We all have different kinds of sense of humour and I still stand by what I said in Jest was not offensive or insulting, Sorry Steve. If you wanna bear a grudge against me for this then it is up to you but I can assure you that I do not have a problem with You, Your car or any other Auto owner come to that, Sorry again....

....but manuals are still better  :D

 ;)

Duffer...

I love my auto. It makes me happy when I boot it, it makes me relaxed when I'm stuck in traffic. I've had no problems with it.

I'm currently driving a manual (not a Z) for the first time in years, and find gear-changing to be slightly annoying and highly over-rated.

2p :)

You like your manual, I like my auto ...it's a Z...FFS!!!!

Enjoy what you have, :slap:

Does'nt matter if it's manual or auto, it depends what colour it is!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeh im sorry guys if I sounded a bit harsh, I did snap a bit.

Sometimes these threads just catch me when im not in the best of moods anyways.

Appologies also if I offended anyone ;)

It's just a bit anoying I get it everywhere I go, every one I speak to goes 'oh no its an auto!'

When their other autos they have ever driven if they even had have probably had about as much hp as a nova GTE with a blown head gasket.

Oh well......................

All the other people I have spoken to with Z's have ran 14sec+ quaters, I think that shrimpies is pretty good TBH.

I dont think in the 13secs range is shit at all, I think thats damn good.

The fact that you were only running .8 bar duff doesnt really matter, dont your turbos flow more at .8bar than stock ones anyway? so its not a fair comparison? and havnt you done shit loads to your engine compared to him anyway?

Until you get a time that is 'significantly' better with all the extras you've got then shrimpy has, (without blowing up  ;))I dont think you can say his times shit ;)

Anyway, thats all ive got to say on the subject for now enough arguing already lol.
