davido140 Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Have a butchers at these, £40 off a guy on ebay, seem pretty good quality on first inspection, I'll let you know how they look when installed. Quote
jaffa Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 you'll need to re-calibrate your speedo as that's a US one that goes to 160. Uk ones go to 180 Jap go to 190 ( or the other way round, don't remember) Quote
davido140 Posted August 26, 2004 Author Posted August 26, 2004 arrrrrrrrrgghhhhhhh just spotted something very bad! the Jap speedo goes to 180 right!!!! look at the speedo on there!!! only 160!!!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (you were right about the quick edit BTW!!) Quote
pete shrimp Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 I think a suitably placed resistor will sort it, dunno what size though. Or some tippex and a marker pen ;) Quote
davido140 Posted August 26, 2004 Author Posted August 26, 2004 hehe you beat me to it jaffa!!! I guess I'll be doing a search on recalibrating the speedo then! :) Quote
Jay Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 YEp, I bought a set and never fitted them 160mph!!!!! Bugger Ill probably sell mine if offered right amount. or fit them if I can get recalibrated. Quote

I'll let you know if I find out how to recalibrate the speedo! cant say Im too bothered about missing those extra 20mph! never go that fast anyway! Quote
pete shrimp Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Its not the top speed which is the issue (much ;) ) its that your indicated speed will be lower than actual throughout the range. I'd imagine it'd be 11% too low (1 - 160/180) Quote
davido140 Posted August 26, 2004 Author Posted August 26, 2004 thats some snappy maths there pete! ;) You can adjust the speedo using some pots on the back right? wonder if there is that much adjustment in them... hmmmmmm Quote

I'd imagine it'd be 11% too low (1 - 160/180) Just done some sums! the error is going to be accumulative, sooo for every 1mph on the clock im actually going to be doing 1.125mph which means 20mph is actually 22.5mph 40 is 45 60 is 67.5 80 is 90 100 is 112.5 120 is 135 140 is 157.5 160 is 180 That is if the Jap speedo maxes at 180. Throws it all out if it maxes at 190!! can anybody confirm please? which im hoping can be corrected using this method... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=36601&page=2&pp=15&highlight=speedo (thanks mark W for doing the ground work!!!) just hope there is enough adjustment in the Pot!!! Smithy Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Jap speedo whilst the last number is 180 there should be another marker after it, making it 190. Uk specs stop at 180. cheers smithy Quote
davido140 Posted August 26, 2004 Author Posted August 26, 2004 Thanks smithy! So that means the offset is 1.1875 per 1mph 20 is 23.75 80 is 95 120 is 142.5 160 is 190 All hail my mighty maths skills (ok i know its simple but its pretty impressive for a dunce like me!) Now all I need is my bleeding car back so I can fooking well try it out!!! Quote
davido140 Posted August 26, 2004 Author Posted August 26, 2004 hahaha im such a lazy git, Cant be arsed to do all the messing around so luke at the Z centre is going to fit a set of his dials for me! bit more expensive but saves me a day of d1cking around in the rain trying to get them right! Quote
