Oil Catch Can & PCV

OK

one of you folks out there may be able to shed some light on my thoughts.

Smoke is caused through the PCV not working properly. Assuming I have the theory of the PCV system correct, oil (vapor) is transfered from the engine through the system into the throttle bodies via the PCV.

Would fitting a can or filter of some kind just befor this stop the oil vapor and therefor stop the plumes of smoke and increase combustion?

Did that make sence?

wots a brand new lump go for?

the fumes from the crankcase are mainly blowby gasses from the combustion chambers. the piston rings are not a 100% seal & some gasses leak past the rings & into the crankcase.

years ago (before emmision controls) these gasses were just vented into the atmosphere, but are now passed back into the inlet manifold to create a closed system.

some people have gone the catch can route, however if your engine is in good health (bottom end) & the PCV's are replaced with the hoses to ensure proper ventilation, then it shouldnt cause smoking anyway
