Get one of the flat screen TFT's you've been asking about and you won't have this problem mate.

Much easier on the eyes.

Also, try not to stare so hard at those video's you have on late at night :xxx:

If this is a serious post, the all I can say is that you must be using an old or crap monitor.

As Chris said get a TFT of if you still want a CRT then get a s/h laCie Electron or Mitsubishi from eBay as they are dirt cheap now, my Electron cost over a grand when I bought it!!

Tim

Iain, you can have my 19 incher for the weekend if you promise to look after it ;)

Yes Tim it is a serious post,I have a Packard Bell 17" that I paid £140 I don't think its a cheap Kak one.

My Eyes do feel strange after a few hrs and just wondered if these anti glare things worked.

How old is the monitor?

Its not a cheap one but there are really expensive top of the range 17" monitors going for £400+ still.

Flat panel is the way to go. Its LCD and doesnt flash like TVs and monitors so its a lot better on the eyes. They are also only 1 resoultion so the quality when it is at that res is much better than traditional monitors. I also found the colours to be much more vibrent.

Another thing, flat panels dont have a thick layer of glass on the front so less glare and you will be amazed at the amount of room it frees up.

Stop looking at the p0rn then! :nono:

I regularly work for over 12hrs at a time sitting in front of 3 monitors (2 CRT & my laptop LCD).

You need to check the emmissions on the monitor that you have and also who makes the tube. The quality of screens varies hugely. I, personally, wouldn't expect a great screen for the sort of money you're talking about.

Try something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3695&item=5103508094&rd=1

or:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3696&item=5104170131&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

But the Electron 22 is a HUGE monitor!

Tim

it also depends on the person, I can sit at a monitor for 20 hours no problem, one of my freinds is likely to have a fit if he uses it without a screen for 30 minutes, you have to ensure your refresh rate is set correct also

get a nice 17" TFT, honestly you will not look back they are a godsent if oyu use your pc for a long time. Im sure you can spare 300 quid to buy one ;)

Go and get your eyes checked you old fart. Nice pair of NHS horn rimmed should suit you!

Hi,

I'd also go down the LCD route if using it for more than a few hours per day, the difference is amazing. Just remember to get one with a low response time to avoid blurring on moving images.

As a temporary measure you could check that your exisiting monitor is running at least 72/75Hz refresh rate, 85 or higher would be better as this has less flicker and is easier on the eyes.

Adam it is running at 60 and when I try and change all goes tits up:(

60hz will deffinatly cause eye strain and quite possibly cause permanent damage to your eyes in the long term. TFT is the way to go.

Yea so mike tells me:( But How do I change it until I get my 19" TFT?

right-click desktop, properties, settings, advanced, monitor, select the 'hide modes the monitor cant display' then choose the highest setting from the dropdown box.

I can send you a 15" TFT now if you like, free of course! Hang on try taking your sunglasses off! LOL

Tried that it goes to 85hz says out of reach when I hit apply,So then I go 70 and the whole desk top goes tits up:(
