Just watched Sundays Top Gear. So now I'm thinking it's apparently not illegal to hold and use a (hand-held) two-way radio whilst driving! And there was me advising people they should clip a radio to themselves (or somewhere) before hitting the button to talk (to stay within the law). I think that's just fickin hilarious having read the cr@p bumpf that came from my phone provider about it being: against the law to hold a mobile phone whilst driving, whether that be to answer it or whatever. I mean, FFS!.. a two-way radio obviously isn't a phone but it's most certainly a "thing" that you can hold in one hand and talk into. Is it illegal to masturbate whilst driving?! (cock in hand: Who's ya fackin daddy?!!!) Not that I'm a big fan of mobile masturbation, but what the f*ck ARE you now allowed to do?! Can I still eat a McDs breakfast on the way to somewhere?! Or do I have to eat it off my passenger seat with both hands on the steering wheel?!

English law - you gotta love it ;)

TBH I am getting real pissed at all these new driving laws, like you say Si It's ok for a Trucker or a Taxi to use a CB but hold a mobile and talk and you get hit with a fine  When I get my car back I have to take the tints off as some :xxx: thought it would be a good idea to make it illegal. :mac1:

I bought them for snowboarding, but they are great when driving in a convoy, and it feels like you are in Smokey and the Bandit!!! :p

It's been illegal for years. I keep meaning to take mine off too, but I can't be arsed! :D

No Dave, when I had mine done 2 years ago it was legal.

Does that mean that coppers are breaking the law when they use their radios whilst driving?

So which bit of the law changed to make yours illegal?

There was talk of them changing the law on the level of tint on the rear screen a couple of years ago, but I don't know if anything came of it.

Side windows had to allow something like 65% of the light through (i.e. 35% tint). Has that limit been changed?

Yea It's now a NO NO on the side windows,I can leave the rear and 1/4s though :(

Mine are more tinted than 35% anyway. I just got the insurance company to send a letter saying I'd declared it, so they'd have no excuse not to pay out if I have to claim. If I get pulled over for it then I'll have to remove it. Simple! ;)

I really don't want to remove it now though as I have UK glass in the windscreen and Jap glass on all the other windows. :(

Looks like they're just having a crackdown on it, rather than changing the law.

Well after hearing about this I phoned the guy that done mine,as he fits this to brand new cars I was expecting him to say it was ok as mine lets the legal limit of light through.

He said I MUST take it off the side windows as the Police can impound my car there and then:( He can also get fined £1000 for tinting anymore :mac1:

"An AA spokeswoman said the motoring organisation welcomed the move.

She said: "In the current climate, where people who are banned drivers can hide behind tinted windows so the police can't recognise them, this is a positive step.""

What the fock planet are they on??!?!?! The chances of a copper 'recognising' a banned driver as they go whizzing past are pretty remote I'd have said. Just more law and regulation to try to justify some pointless fackwits job IMHO!

Well they can impound the car if they're illegal, yes, so I suppose they could impound mine. They issue some sort of notice which means you can't drive the car until it's fixed, and apparently just winding the windows down isn't good enough! ;)

If it turns out the tint is illegal, they can then go after the guy who tinted them, so I suppose he's just being wary. :(

Maybe the law has just changed though.

The Construction & Use regs don't seem to say it's illegal either, although you could debate this part:

"If a vehicle's windows were excessively tinted by the use of stick-on film or a spray, there may be a contravention of C&U# Regulation 30. This requires that all glass or other materials fitted must be maintained in such a condition that it does not obscure the vision of the driver. Again, it does not specifically prohibit those windows from having a tinted film applied, but doing so could be interpreted as contravening the Regulation."

Exacta-mondo! I really must get some UK spec ones tho ;)

I can't remember who said it... possibly Clarkson, but it's OK to hold and talk into a banana whist driving. It's not a phone now, is it!? Banana shaped phone anyone?! Oooh no, that'd be illegal to use!

All just goes to show how PATHETIC the road legislation is in this country.

You can't use a mobile, but you can use a CB/walkie-talkie

You can't have tinted windows, but you can wear sunglasses as dark as Frank Bruno's arse!

Politicians and GP Doctors - I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire!

the law is 70% light transmission. most tints that were considered legal have now been discovered to fail that level of light transmission.

add that to the fact that most side windows have some level of factory tinting on already & you have no chance :(

we were made to remove film from cars we had on our forecourt a couple of weeks back.

If that's the case, and Mac was told that the film he *paid* to have put on his car was legal, then I suppose it's reasonable for him to go back to the guy who did it and insist ( :mac1: ) he does it properly this time so that it is legal or gives him his money back! :D

VOSA are recommending NO tints on the front side windows apart from factory tints, as Mac has already stated

No, he said it was illegal on the side windows. According to the VOSA website, the limit is still 70% transmission.

it is 70% transmission - I just fekking said that! :slap:

like i said - most cars have tints on the side windows already, I spoke to a VOSA rep recently who recommended NO AFTERMARKET TINTS ON THE SIDE WINDOWS!!!! ok??

They can recommend what they like, but Mac's assertion that it is now **illegal** to have aftermarket tints on the side windows and your assertion that Mac was right are both wrong. :p
Must be my facking Norven accent
Unlikely, as I've got one too. ;)

Too much time living down here though, so it's not as strong as it used to be. I can still understand Northern though! :D
