About 5 weeks ago I bought a set of JDM alloys with tyre's off e-bay from a member of this forum., the tyre's were described as "Brand New" so I bid £300 and won. So far so good....

When I picked them up I had a look at them, seemed OK so I loaded them into the car, didn't look too closely as you tend to trust a fellow zedder don't you??

Well that was a mistake!, I got around to cleaning up and painting the outside face of the wheels at the weekend, during which of course, I had a close look at the tyres, they had at max 5mm tread on them at any point, meaning they must all be at least 1/3 worn down and on very close inspection, the rubber has signs of cracking meaning they must be quite old!!

Anyway, nice guy that I am, I fretted a bit and decided to let it go thinking well, 2/3rds tread, still worth it, but no!!! on fitting the wheels the car it juddered badly at all speeds and steering was terrible, even at dead slow speeds with these tyres on, so I went on to waste time and money, having them balanced, twice at two different places, but no, still crap!

The tyre fitter advised, at least two of them are out of round and/or have flat spots on the tread and are effectively scrap!

So I told this to the seller via e-mail, and suggested a partial refund, as the wheels are still of use to me, but no!! He wouldn't do sod all, again claiming the tyres were brand new when he sold me them!

Further correspondence ensued, during which he then admitted, the tyres were on the car when he aquired it as an import, proving they weren't brand new at all as he had described!!

But will he do anything?? guess what, No! Will he accept mediation from ebay? No!

I had foolishly assumed they had only been used for a few hundred miles when I picked them up, had I looked closer I wouldn't have bought them. So I suppose the moral of the story is.... don't assume everyone with a zed and on this forum is honest and decent as obviously some are not.

So now I've got that off my chest, do you want me to name and shame the individual or not???

Paul

This threat may be enough to shame him. Leave it for a while.

name and shame.... unless it was me...

I agree. Name and shame!

well paul your the man! you have kept all your threats real..I have nothing to be ashamed about......................read on...

I'll tell my side of the story but this is the last time i speak about it, because paul has worn my index finger out, repling to his mails.

sold my set of standard wheels on e-bay, new bridgestone tyres all round. paul arrived to collect them, i showed him them in the garage then went to make a drink, he then proceded to load all 4 into his boot, came back with drink he was very pleased with them and give me the cash, end of story or so i thought until yesterday.

nearly 2 months later (8th of march) he e-mails me and says he's just finised refurbishing them (don't know why, they did'nt need it) and says the tyres are very old and worn, er???? sorry mate you say what?????, can i have my money back or some sort of refund, er???? no sorry paul it's been this long, you've managed to refurbish each wheel by hand and you have'nt said (strange).

now just to clarify a few off pauls comments.

don't all mechanics say your tyres are knackerd???

What is proberbly the hardest thing for me to understand is paul says they run terrible on his car and they are out of round. They ran absoulutely perfact on my car, no judder, no vibration, and pauls says at the top of his post '' I picked them up and they looked ok'' now if they where as bad and as worn as your making out would'nt you all think you'd notice?

anyway trying to cut a long story short, I car'nt give him a refund for the reasons above

why don't you all put yourself in my shoes, you sell your alloys and tyres to someone from e-bay, he collects them, looks at each one, thank you very much. contacts you nearly 2 months later and ask's for a refund, then says I did'nt notice that they where old and worn?????

he has since threatend to report me to e-bay,(which he has done), name me on here?

(which he has done), now leave negative feedback,(not yet done), which makes me wonder why he never did it after the transaction?

anyway thats my side of it,

Go reply 2 months is a bit long time

O sorry about :xxx:

tis quite possible they do run like shite,

i put on a 2nd hand set of 18" leagues plus tyres on my current zed and i thought they ran like shite - even took them to get re-balanced 3 times.

they settled down though - dont know why - just did - now they run fine

my 2p's

Regards,

alex

Interesting - well someones telling lies - this should really now be moved to the fight club!!! Where are the moderators when you need one???

Geoff.

:x: 2 months mate come on, a couple of ??'s

1.did you remove the tyres to refurb?

2. did you put them back on??

3. are they directional ? if so are they on the right way (not wishing to teach to suck eggs)

We all buy stuff off ebay, you pays ya money and takes ya chance :x: nough said.

I am here, can't see a problem with it as yet,but if it does get silly then I will move, lock etc No problem!

The way i look at it. Bought as seen. If the seller knew that there were problems with the wheels and tires and sold them off as if they were fine then obviously hes not an honest decent fella. But even so the buyer should have noticed the problems. If he didnt then its his responsability. To be honest 2 months is too long a time to come back saying hey these things i bought off you are dodgy.

NOTE: That entire paragraph was hypothetical and did not represent any persons present. :p :D

caveat emptor

I use ebay a lot, you pay your money you take a chance.

The rims are worth £300 alone if they're not too knackered/curbed. My advise would be take it as a lesson learnt, go buy some decent rubber and chalk it up to experience.

FWIW Tyres should be stored in the dark in cool conditions otherwise, regardless of how good they are/were they will deteriorate. I have a set of 'track' tyres and they show signs of cracking and they've only been outside 12 months.

Tim

OK, So he's named & shamed himself!!, good.

Now I'll give you all my final comments, and you can all make up your own minds, having read my comments and ttops reply. I just don't like being ripped off, and hopefully, if anyone else dealing with this individual is a bit more cautious, It might do some good....

Here are the hard facts....

1, Advert specifically stated tyres were "brand new", and he's still harking on about this, although he's since even admitted himself, he didn't know how old they were!

2, Tyres have 5.5mm tread max at any one point, Bridgestone advise this tyre type starts with 8mm.

3, Dot code on sidewalls has been confirmed by Bridgestone that the tyres were manufactured in February 2001.

4, I agreed to buy the tyres based on the description given, ie, "brand new"!! They were not described as to be sold as seen!

The rest of his arguament, time before complaining etc.. is not relevant, the wheels sat in my dry, dark garage for just over a month, following me picking them up from him on the 13th of March, before I got the time to do anything with them, all I did was refinish the outer face of the rims to freshed them up, as there was a little salt corrosion to deal with, the tyres were not removed during this process.

He also keeps harking on about me understanding why he'll do nothing & being in his shoes, well, if I sold someone a product that I had aquired and believed to be new, and sold on as such at a price reflecting this and it was then proved to me that the item was not new, but worn and/or faulty, I would be quite prepared to discuss a suitable return or refund situation, maybe I'm in a minority these days, I'd be interested to know who else would?

Having spoken to a solicitor friend of mine, I could take him through the small claims court, and would win based on the hard evidence I've got of him misrepresenting the product. Even in his absence (which I'm sure would be the case) he'd end up with a nice County Court Judgement, however as this would undoubtably remain outstanding, I'll just end up even more out of pocket, so it looks like he's going to get away with it, and as someone stated, I'll just have to chalk it up to experience.

So ttop, looks like your off the hook mate, I've now left you e-bay feedback, no doubt you'll spout some more crap in reply to this, insisting on your innocence!

So, indeed, buyers do beware, especially when dealing with ttop!!

Good job I beleive in what goes around, comes around, he'll get his one day the shite!

Paul

A If these tyres were imported with car they may be out of shape even if they have done no milage from new. Because the cars can sit on the Quay side for months in the Japanese Summer and they become disformed. The Toyota TDR I imported fot my wife sounded like the rear wheel bearings had gone, but it was just tyre warpage. I wasn't notice-able at different Tyre pressures and even though they were about 5 to 6mm of tread they looked almost new.

What I'm saying is you could both easilly be telling the truth.

Well i did say i would'nt replie to this anymore, but after reading that description I car'nt resist, YOU COLLECTED AND INSPECTED the wheels and tyres YOURSELF, surely anybody in the right mind would notice these WORN and DEFECTIVE tyres, you say they where in the garage for 1 to 2 months, did you unload the tyres with your eyes shut??

I hope i never have to deal with anyone from e-bay like paul again!

I still don't know what it proved bringing the matter from e-bay to the zed site????
