Got my 300zx TT 2 seater on Saturday been attracting a lot of attention from people in the street as it's the only one in my local town (as it has a throaty roar and dump valves of course)...

...tonight, was working late at my friend's shop, pulled away from the side of the road, looked in the mirror, police astra behind me...follows me about for 5 mins, then pulls me over...

...two (very polite) policemen then proceeded to ask me all sorts of questions about the car (including "off the record how fast is it" - like I'm going to answer that!)

Of course, having only been registered through the SVA etc on Fri, the police computer has no record of the car or plate, so they call the traffic coppers to have a look over it, checking the chassis number etc...was standing around in the cold for 1/2 an hour!

Best moment however was the traffic copper - walks round the car, smugly says to me "I take it the switch to turn the fog lamps off works?" - he was rather sheepish when I turned ON the foglights and the running lights lit up brighter :)

Anyway after much looking over the car looking for something to do me for (to no avail of course, it was MOTd on Fri) and writing down loads of notes they let me go with a warning to expect to get pulled regularly...

GITS!

In defence of the BiB then the fact that the car didn't turn up on the PNC when they ran a check was reason enough to stop you.

There are enough people riding around out there with no licence, no insurance and unregistered cars for it to be a real problem to 'us' the law abiding motorist, i.e. the ones that pay insurance, road tax etc.

I can't believe they said be prepared to get pulled, that in itself would be grounds for complaint.

I have been pulled once in 3 yrs and that was partly my own fault for 'testing' the newly fitted TC off a local round about. I too have the only red zed in the local area, the coppers, who were incidentally armed respense officers, warned me that with my car and that sort of driving I was asking for trouble. Comments that I considered valid at the time, they then let me off with a verbal warning.

So, if you'd been in your zed and some skallywag in a GTiR had broardsided your car, only for you to discover that it was uninsured and unregistered, you'd be asking why the police hadn't pulled them before.

You can't have it both ways.

Tim

I hear what you're saying, but around my way (maybe Mike Groves can back me up) the local law seems to have a lot more respect for my car than all the boy-racers in Saxos. I've got pulled twice in 4 years (5 years?) - once on Southend seafront a week after I bought it (they were pulling up everyone to check insurance), and the other time I pulled out of a junction and did a huge broady... right in front of an old bill car I hadn't seen. Oops. I still only got a huge grilling from a rather short police-laydee (she was pretty too, dammit) and a 7-day wonder.

Yup, I've never been pulled over my the police :) they are more intersested in pulling people with neons :D

If they are polite then I never mind a tug from the Old Bill. I always think, well what if someone had just nicked my Z, at this point now they would be getting caught and I would be getting my beloved back. Its when they do it with a pompous, arrogant attitude that gets me fired up. I have had a mixture of both. But got to say I have only been pulled over once I think in 3 years of Z ownership. My first car when I was 18 was a Renault 5 GT Turbo, that was once a week!! It was a joke! ......but not a very funny one.

I've only been pulled the once and that was for having no front number plate attached while driving through the city. Number plate was on my dash as I'd just had the bumper fitted.

They were pretty good, gave me a form to get stamped by an MOT station showing the plate was back on and that was that.

Never been stopped in the Zed, used to reckon on being stopped at least once a month on my bike though - now they are real cop magnets. (Although I think it's fair to say that it's probably more to do with the driver/rider than the vehicle itself)

Only ever been stopped twice in the Z in 4 years.

However I got stopped 26 times in one year when I had a Rover 214....

The computer readouts of numberplate are automatic now, depending on what system they have. If you drive past a police car in the opposite direction their camera will read your plate and check it out and say whether the car is taxed, MOTd or if the owner has a warrent for their arrest and such.

But that is IF they had that system.

I have been followed once the the police in the first week of having the car.

Stuart

Only been stopped one, that was on the day I bought the car and was driving it home!

Ditto. I was always getting pulled on my bike, when I wasn't getting knocked off it by myopic morons!

I think it is how people ride them though. My dads has only been stopped a few times in his 30 years of riding.

Has he got or had a sports bike though?

Cops on bikes love to nick someone on a bike too.........they are the worst!

They're SUPPOSED to be ridden at 14,000 rpm on the back wheel!! LOL!!:D :D

I got stopped for lots of reasons, including.........

My bike matched the description of a Vauxhall Vectra they were after !!!???!?!?!?!?    HUH!? WTF!?

They thought I might have been going to the Heston Services bike hang-out and wanted to discourage bikers meeting there....

I accelerated away from the lights and up to the speed limit too fast for their liking (it's a SUPERBIKE FFS!, it does 0-60 in 3 secs!)

All the usual weak excuses they use. Can you believe they still try to play the old Good Cop/Bad Cop routine!

I often feel a bit naughty sometimes, booting it off the lights etc...but what can they do you for?! Dangerous driving?

"Maximum acceleration 10m/s/s" LOL

I got pulled for accelerating up to the legally posted limit with 'too much enthusiasm' !!! wtf.

Then he went on to explain that he had run a check with the insurance database and I wasn't listed. Seems my insurance company had forgotton to update the details when I had the private reg fitted.

Good job the copper was in a good mood, cause he could have taken me in for driving without insurance under the new legislation (or so he said!).

Worth noting if you change the details of your car with the insurers!

As long as you had a insurance note with your new reg on you are fine.

Which is what I said, right ?

About 6 months back was stopped by two very young plod while creeping into Tesco car park one night,"Your fog lights bla bla bla,its an offence bla bla bla"then i turned them on"Oh i see, they must be what they call driving lights in the land of the risin sun":D then i got 50 questions bout the Z :D

4 months back, at a junction to pull out on main drag near Rugby, pulls off nice n steady, then was proceeded to be followed for about a mile towards centre of town by plod in a 4x4,then flashing lights, plenty noise, pulls over with them up me arse(traffic was murder and very quickly were causing tail backs, mayhem etc,the two that got out were well young, the reason i was pulled over"you pulled out of that junction a bit to slow,if another car was to come round the top bend it may T bone ya"i said fair enough i will remember that, next time i will give it some, they agreed:rofl: ,then spent 15 mins or so telling them bout Z etc, bonnet up,whats this, how fast, how long had, what is it again, how much,"mmmmm dont think i could afford to run it on my wages etc"by now traffic was fookin awfull.great laugh to be honest, and they were genuinely interested:D

LOL Tony - remember Officer Dibble that came running over while I was "test driving" your/my ;) car in the carpark?! :D:D

"...you are obviously too immature and inexperienced to own a car like that..." :D
