Has anyone actually got any proactive ideas that would be good for the club?

Instead of all the bitching why can't we get some good ideas together. It is all to easy to moan about things but it is a damn sight harder to think of good ideas that could benefit the club as a whole.

This shouldn't be a discussion of ideas because that would lead nowhere at this time. It will just create more bickering.

Just post your ideas.

I like this forum, the members seem great, and it a good collection of z owners and enthusiasts.

But cant help feel that people want more.

I for one feel there should be a better members section(rides), with specifications and images of each members cars available for others to see, but with a consistant feel about the site, because as the moment the rides section is a folder which the owners creates their own page, and a good site should always keep the same design, so the visitor knows they are still within the 300zx site.

I would also like to see more information about the cars themselves.(Ie, see http://www.fuelinjection.co.uk then choose model information and 300zx, see the secifications page).

Articles about technical tips & tricks would be nice, ie how to fit mirrors or similar!

Maybe some members would like to create articles on there project, so others can follow the progress of modifications and the creating of a beast!

There could also be parts of the website which are only accessible to paying members only. This will make people think they are paying for something worthwhile.

These are my views as a new member of the board.

Since this site is a coutry wide affair, hows about making the meetings more accessible to people up and down the country? Webcast etc? Also minutes from the meetings etc. There is far too much stuff hidden from the members in here IMO

Guys,

The moderators and commitee like I have said in another have only been running the forum for six months!

Give us a break, we are human, we do make mistakes!

Things that have happened or are happening!

Craig has handed over control to the mods and commitee members.

The formation of an acceptable use policy for the club!

Traders because of the above policy and Macs help have come back to the forum.

Club rules are being formatted as we speak.

Getting ourselves officially recognised as a club is being processed.

Get ourselves insured as a club is under way

Discounts have been arranged with the traders!

Discounts are being arranged with insurance companies!

Discounts are being arranged with Recovery companies!

Liason with traders and the resolution of any conflicts that may occur is happening.

Membership packs are in process!

The club finances are being evaluated and an analysis of club funds.

Forum has been redesigned!

The forum IT is being maintained and updated!

I am trying to liase with you guys at the moment and solve these issues

This is just a list off the top of my head if you ask any person involved in the commitee they would probably add another 10 things to that!

Guys this is a process it won't be perfect and you have a right to air your views but not to give abuse to moderators which has happened!

We cannot take everybodies view on board at a commitee meeting, we have to analyse what we think the current opinon is regarding certain issues and then try to process them!

If we analysed every opinion/idea we would be there for days and the workload created would be phenomenal.

We understand the request for subs without an analysis of club resources has caused anger, but this is in hand and is being looked at!

When we get an idea we have to examine it and then see how much time and money and effort it would take and would the membership want or appreciate it!

It is easy to present an idea but someone then has to actually do it and thats what we need volunteers for!

Off the top of my head at the moment we have vacancies for!

Someone to design a new club logo?

Someone to be in charge of tech write ups/FAQ's/how to's, Andy Duff your name has been bandied around regarding this, some people actually think you know what you are talking about:eek:

I can see your passion for the forum and the car and though I feel that this could sometimes be expressed in different ways!

We have been communicating with you but I think in the past this has been in a disjointed manner, maybe I can go some way to unifying the information and presenting it to you!

Blimey - I go away for a week and everything falls apart

duffer/smithy - some great suggestions there. I don't mind paying subs. After all, most of us have got a from this site- but most importantly, help has come from other members. We need to retain our 'core' membership as well as expanding our numbers. However, I agree with all the points made about accounts. Mac has done sterling work in bringing in the traders; these funds in addition to members subs must put us in a 'healthy postition'. But, some sort of financial statement must be issued so we know 'where out money has been going'

mark topless - nice one on the postition of mods/members liaison. I think there should be someone there to 'bridge the gap'

just my two penneth

I would be happy to help to design a new club logo, however it should be noted that within an identity it is normally the logo that is designed first. The rest of the identity fits in with the colours used so from an aesthetic point of view everything blends in and continuity remains throughout.

I would therefore give serious consideration into redesigning the site as a whole, not just the logo.

Thanks web monkey.

So are you offering to redesign the whole site or the logo!

  • Author

Mark .. I am quite happy to redesign whatever you require. I would be more than pleased to liase with you to redesign the whole site and create a logo for you.

My recommendation as a designer would be to redesign the site as a whole. That would be the way forward.

I can send you lots of links of sites and identities that I have created for large Corporates and SME's ...

Just let me know

Hi Smithy,

I have also volunteered to organise Trax and Billing for 2004, I presume you mean organise the main meetings! What are the other two Jap shows you are talking about?

Mark in order of the calender,

Japfest April/May

Billing July

Trax september

Santa pod jap meet end of each October, 1st time official this year with a regular meeting planned each year, i believe.

There could also be regular north-south-east -west meets organised by the locals to that particular area and as often as they wish.

I still believe a medium sized Marque is great to have at these meets, situated in between our cars and information along with subscription packs available to all, all it takes is about 8 members of the club attending to do an hour each in the marque promoting us and displaying what we are about.

I had people at both billing and trax who approached me and were NOT members, so still plenty out there left to join.

smithy

Hi Smithy,

You go to a lot more shows than I do so if you think they are of the calibre where we could recruit more members great.

I have committed myself to Trax and Billing, and I work 75% of weekends so committing myself to four weeknds would be problematic.

Also the members have to decide whether they want to fund the expense of the 'official presence' and put the work in to man the Marque!

I personally think that it might be a good idea to start at Billing and trax and then try others!

Webmonkey,

Thank you for the offer of help, at this point in time my brain is full and rejects any concept of taking onboard IT skills!! So to have some idea of what you can offer and how you can benefit the website, can you write it down on this thread so that the members can get an idea of what it is they might want or not!

Sorry for the late reply ... Have been so busy been ridiculous.

OK ... I am offering to design the club a new logo if the members want one and also a brand new look and feel website that gives the club a whole revamp.

If the members would like a brand new website then a discussion should take place to see what members and the committee would like to see on the site. I can go on from there.

Like I said before, I have the experience to design a quality website and have been a designer for over 9 years. I work with large corporates that have 10,000+ pages to their site to smaller ME's. I have a lot of branding experience as well as print and new media.

Anyways .... If a new site look and feel is wanted then I am offering to help .. if it isn't, then that is cool as well.

On a personal note, I think the website should be the main focus, not the Forum .. the forum should obviously be a part of the main website. There are a lot of things that could be part of the architecture of the website. There could be a monthly magazine, regular weekly updates to the homepage, news section, members only section, chatroom, technical area, the list goes on and on ...

Whatever people want.

Cheers

I hereby volunteer to write up, well, anything I'm asked to. I'm not a mechanic, but I make a living from understanding impenetrable technical stuff and presenting it to management droids in words of less than 3 syllables. (Apologies to any management droids reading this, especially if they're one of my customers. :D)

It so happens that the impenetrable stuff I usually write about is e-business; but it's a transferable skill and I think it would be most helpful to transfer it here.

For instance, I keep writing long replies to questions in the forum, and then when I see my post again I think "well, I should have done that properly, it would have been far more helpful that way..."

I also read pretty much everything here - so I could keep an eye out for anything without a formal writeup in our putative FAQ and add it as we go.

The "index" on 300zx.org.uk is a tremendous resource, but something more formal would be very very helpful. Usually at the moment you have to post in a forum, and someone will reply with a link plus their own experiences. If all of that could be combined into a full FAQ, how good would that be?

If I were to do this I would need someone's techie brains to pick - Andy?

Andy must know what he's talking about - he agrees that manwells are better.

It would be unfair of me to volunteer to organise events etc, although I am tempted, because I quite often end up away from home all week at short notice. Conversely, if I'm stuck in a hotel somewhere in Scotland, that's a good time for me to add another FAQ section or two!

Zack

Zach,

Sounds very very much like a plan to me m8! You're only down the road from me too which is a bonus - could get together, run through the stuff, take pictures while the stuff is done, then sort the write up.

Anyone else got opinions?

CheerZ,

Andy

Andy N Zack Tech Section.......

Sounds like a plan to me as long as you make a note of how many slurps of Stella you take to each turn of the screw driver!!

Seriously though fella's, sounds like a great idea, write up's with pictures helps the people who are capable but don't understand the lingo as well as those who are more tech minded, I for one will really appreciate picutes and descriptions.

Again, great idea.

Matty.
