My MS Explorer has stopped working. When it opens up, it just says DETECTING PROXY SETTINGS and does not open any web pages up. Does anyone know what is going on???? I have Opera and I'm using it at the mo'.

In IE go to the Tools menu, then Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, Untick Automaticaly detect settings, Untick Use a Proxy Server.

This is assuming you are not on a network with a server that connects you to the internet...

You are the MAN. How the hell was anyone suppose to know that???

OK, now for a tougher one. I cannot load ebay website on my home PC. It just does not load up. However, sometimes when I've restarted the PC and ADSL router it loads up...only sometimes though. I don't understand it,

Some servers block some sites. I dont know why but they do. Try downloading another browser, like Opera, and see if that does anything different.

My sister has AOL  and couldnt get onto a number of sites. Installing Opera sorted most of them out.

It's my job ;)

I should be charging you but if you own a Z you probably can't afford me as well LOL

The e-bay problem is going to be a bit trickier but maybe try deleting your temporary files and cookies.

Again in IE got to Tools, Internet Options then click the Delete Cookies and Delete Files buttons. Might clear something out that's got screwed up.

If you have a firewall on your PC or Router maybe the site has somehow been blocked?

Can you see either of http://www.ebay.com or http://www.ebay.co.uk ?

Go to:

http://www.secureie.com/

and treat yourself to the secure browser; it really is faster too.

I'm on W2k and it doesn't need defragmenting but will do a clean up just in case.

Which router do you have?

ย

Mine (a D-Link DSL-504) had a software firewall that had an annoying tendency to block sites that it thought were trying to gain access to the PC. A firmware upgrade seems to have sorted it out.

Could it be a DNS issue? Are you using some sort of DNS caching in the router?

ย

Does it work if you change the DNS IPs on the PC to something other than the Plusnet ones?

I've just resaved the settings on the router and it seems to be working. Infact, it seems a little faster (probably my imagination) than before. If it craps up again I'll let you know.

ย

Thanks for all your help
