Morning...or is it afternoon? Whatever...;)

Driving north into Hinkley last night I saw a white van (transit/boxer type) facing away from the traffic flow on my side, it was completely unmarked.

The rear of the van had a gap at the top 8-10 inches high, spanning the whole width of the van across it with 2 or 3 CCTV style camera facing the traffic flow. The gap had a flap which was open to let the "cameras see out...

The traffic was v heavy so the cars were only crawling, and there were a couple of traffic police cars a couple of miles further up  which seemed to be observing traffic.

Whats going on?? Does anyone know what the van was doing?

Pete,

They have been known to put speed cameras in vans like this, but usually they use small vans and have the entire doors open. COuld be tax disc dodging detection thing, snapping the reg of the car, cross reffing with DVLA and then if its stolen, not taxed etc, the bibs further down the road can tug you.

Just a thought.

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Apparently, I've been reliably informed by a newly-caught speeder, this is the latest gimmick that the lawr is using to catch us naughty boys and girls who flaunt the speed limits. Basically, bung a mobile camera or two in an unmarked white van, park it at the side of the road, and see who you can net! Undoubtedly, the marked cars are there to add their persuasion to those who may 'not notice' the white van man trying to flag you down! Besides, they'd be a mere blur at 115mph! As if this country doesn't get enough cash out of us already! Think I'll vote for the Anarchy party next time!

I've seen one of these parked on an A road near me.

They are the new digital cameras that can identify your reg and tell if you have no tax/insurance etc.

I think they also get annoyed if you go too fast ;)

wouldn't have thought they were speed cameras - supposedly concealed cameras are not to be used anymore?? (or does this just apply to fixed cameras??)

Any lawyers on here...

They did that on the road I work in and they had a field day - they where pulling people all over the place......And arrested one or two as well. Checks the car details to see if everything as it should be. If not - the cops furhter up the road pull you in.

If the police are now allowed to use unmarked vans, what a crock of $hit this is.

More victimisation of the motorist.

Mike

"Hello.... is that the council? You haven't collected my rubbish for the last 2 weeks and my bin is now starting to smell of rotting bacon. My address is .......... and you can identify the bin by the perspex repair I made on the side. Please make sure you get every last bit of rubbish in my bin in the back of your wagon and crushed beyond recognition as there is some sensitive information in there I want destroyed....."

:D:D:D Might just work. If that was outside my house, well....

They dont half burn well, those wheely bins, is someone was to be careless with a cigarette end or a can of lighter fluid.......allegedly

Pete in hinckley, id wager its something speed related theyre the barstards who got my car, oh i must reply to that nip seeing as its on about day 31 of 28 now!!!

The one that got mine was white, marked down the side but not at the front the bir that was facing my car, the cheekey beggars put no signs out either as far as i noticed. (least so the driver tells me;) )

Yep - that'll be the police -

we have them down our way normally they have the rear sliding door open to photograph through but sometimes they have a large blacked out window so no open door.

Best thing has always been to keep an eye on bridges - if there are stationery vehicles then slow down.

Failing that get a radar detector.!!!

Regards,

Alex

I got a detector, damn thing didnt even beep(erm, so im told!), so that was a waste of time!

Well I saw a wheely bin floating up the Tyne last week, so hopefully some crafty cloggy had pinched it and dumped it off the ferry on his way over here!!:D :D :D

NICE!!!!

I have seen them use a van that looked like it was a Travelers van, ie an old scruffy camper thing, Leighton Buzzards area.

And in Aylesbury they have a very tall van which "looks" over roundabouts and catches you before you get to the roundabout. Very sneaky as you can only see it after you know its there, and then only about a foot of the top.

Also often laser vans in the middle of town. But I feel its fair in town.

The Liverpool police are the sneakiest!!

I was driving near the airport a few months ago and there was a ford galaxy broken down in the inside lane with its hazzards on, wasnt till i got along side of it i noticed that all the windows were blacked out and 2 coppers stood up and had cameras mounted into a roof box with two tiny windows to see out of.

Very dodgy, you couldnt tell it was police until you were passing it.

Its a shame they dont put as much effort into catching rapists, muggers etc rather than go after us all the time

I've seen these white vans for well over a year now in the lincolnshire and leicestershire areas. They are normally in NEW speed camera areas about a week or two after they put up new signs.

One in particular is on my way to and from work, its on a main road, in the middle of nowhere, and in the past four years i've been travelling the road I've only seen two accidents on this stretch of road.......so why bother and waste tax payers money?? It's a straight road!!!!!!!!!! And a good overtaking place, to get past those 50mph coffin-dodgers:D

Dave

Quite a few of the GATSOS in Bucks now seem to have the two wires across the road attached to them. Seems to me that they are out to catch those of us that have detectors, because none of these that I have come across have had the radar system active.
