Both are Packard Bell and come with the same Win XP and software, but are the extras/upgrades on 2 worth paying the extra £200 for? And do I really need them? :D

Thanks :)

It was a couple of years ago, so I dunno what their prices are like now? Cheers for the link, I'll have a look.

also try http://www.ajp.co.uk. I have bought their laptops and service was good, but not tried their desktops...

Lol, I just read through the wole thread and wondered why everyone is recomending the GF4 cards as they are like 3 years old :p About upgrading processor: What motherboard does your computer have?

What's your budget?

Quick answer is to change the mobo for AMD 64 939 pin and the fastest processor

you can afford. You'll maybe need to change the memory too.

Cheapest option is to look in the handbook of the mobo that have and see

what the fastest processor is that it will support.

or you could ask me.... someone forget i offer discounts to members???

and my 64bit systems are cheaper than most others.. with better specs..

no.. yes???

oh and thanx for the support guys.. as usual... :headvswal :headvswal

I PM'd you last week about a 64 bit system Si and you never replied ?? Can you PM me what I would get for around £450 without monitor/kbd/mouse/any peripherials. This would be a middle-range gaming machine, cheers!

And Pete, i wouldnt touch either of those machines, they are both packard bell, and both celeron processors......neither of which I would wish upon anybody!!

Pete mate, Forget Celeron processor - they are a budget low end processor and you'll be wanting to change your PC within a month cause it's to slow!!! Get yer ass down to COMET who are doing A Hewlett Packard PC with an AMD64 Processor and ATI Graphics card 80GB HDD and 5.1 surround sound with DVD writer and Lightscribe drive for only £399!!!! or there doing a deal with a 15"TFT with it for £499 or £519 with a 17" TFT!!! ;)

yep two years old however he still wants to upgrade the cpu.....

pm was sent.. wierd..

np will re-price it again.. as the price changes all the time with the different suppliers i use so i can play them off against each other..

will pm you shortly..

I have angus's "old" ajp laptop now, and it's fantastic. Build quality is spot on, very nice to use, and the whole look and feel of it is quality. If they carry this quality onto their desktop machines then I would definitely recommend them!

Just bumping this old thread up from when I bought my pc :D

Yep it's an old thread :smw: :smw:

Cheers lads, I'll find out what the motherboard is and go from there.

Simmo - is that one like an all-compatible motherboard? Sounds like a plan  Budget... dunno,

Just a mo' before you rush into anything.

Are you using Windows XP?

Have you run any system tools recently?

Have you run Adaware and Spybot?

If you have not then you may find that

when you do you pc will be quicker.

(A simple check to know whether your pc is suffering

garbage is that it should be about 45 seconds for boot-up.)

Try eBay for mobo + cpu offers but you'll need to

check the memory type that you have.

If you are not a games player, then cpu/video power is

not too important.

Bigger monitor would be good.

That mobo spec I quoted would be for a high-end pc.

AMD64 comes 754 and 939 pin but there's no point

in getting a mobo that'll take both.
