Just read the post and I've gotta say it doesnt sound good....

If craig stops running it how do people become subscribed members from here on in?

Hi All,

I've been asked to bung a short post explaining a little of what has been going with forum organisation over the past few months. So here goes.

In the old days, the forum was run by a couple of admins who did it for love and could get away with using servers and bandwidth "informally".

People move on and this was no longer possible. To keep the forum going, it had to be moved to a dedicated server with proper bandwidth. Both of which cost money. So members were invited to subscribe. Many subscribed and even more did not. This is OK because the subscribed members don't mind helping out - and they get access to a few forums which the unpaid don't.

And some members gave assistance in other ways - building the server, arranging hosting and so on.

By this time, one of the original admin founders left and the whole organisational, moderating thing was being carried by a single person. A number of existing members were asked if they could help out and share the load. These are the current moderators - myself included.

As you can tell from many posts, the lot of a moderator is not a happy one and there can be a high level of debate about what should and should not be "allowed".

So what we are doing at the moment is to come up with some way that this forum can be run the way that the members want. With enough money coming in to keep it going. And an agreed method of choosing mods, with an AUP policy that everyone can abide by.

When we have done our work - which includes reading every view expressed in the many posts and polls, we will propose the results to the forum.

So with a spot of luck, within a few months, there will be a way of carrying on the forum without having to rely on a single admin or small set of mods.

Does this help?

Cheers - Gio

ps,would it be good idea to put your post as a sticky so as to inform new visitors/members etc as to whats happening;)

Thanks Gio & Co, I was getting a bit worried there.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Mike

I have a lot to say on this, but I shall refrain.

Craig's post 'bye' sums up my feelings too, and no I don't have a sense of humour failure.

The server has been sat in my workshop waiting to be sorted out and, hell I was going to upgrade it too and no I wouldn't want a single penny for this as it was all meant as goodwill.

It only takes a few to ruin it for the many.

I find it very strange that on nearly all the other threads, talk is of 'moving forward' and 'a better and bigger 300zx.co.uk'... well that's cool and noble but i'll ask one question:

Would ANY of you help to provide a service that was used to fire some of the hatred and bile that comes out here?

I have had banter with people, good natured and in the time I've been here:

I have been told 'I hope your frigging house burns down tonight'

I have been told 'that I am not fit to be a father as I am constantly out of my head on Smack/Coke/Hash' - never booze though ironically

Been told to 'Fvck off to Bahgdad to be a leftie peacefreak human shield'

Had countless agro stirred up against me by turds on MSN.

Now I can give as good as I get and I don't really care when people call my Skyline a Mondeo.. that's japery.

Being informed that certain members know where I live and are paying a visit to the Isle of Wight soon ain't funny.

So the server stays on my workshop floor for the time being, and when it does get upgraded and the memory problem is addressed I'll send it back to Mike (who is the person you all REALLY want to be thanking along with Craig) where hopefully it will be re-installed in the rack to allow the good people of 300zx to carry on forever.

My opinion though... I couldn't give a flying t0ss :(

Peace.

Glen

hope it does carry on as normal for all of us, as owning a zed is as much about this place & all the members as it is to do with actually driving the car IMO!! :)

now i know there is a lot of banter & crap on here but is it really that bad??

i suppose there is some unessasary drivel & hostile posts every now & again but on the whole its a fun & informative place to be isnt it??

thanks to all thats involved in keeping this place going, keep it up guys (& girls ;) ) :D
