A website which lists other websites - ie. the most useful for all different things ? ie. better than an internet search ?

Also (to save another thread topic)...do automatics have a flywheel...this suggests they do..

but garage chappie says they don't

Interesting stuff about automatics.....

Benefits and Weak Points

In addition to the very important job of allowing your car come to a complete stop without stalling the engine, the torque converter actually gives your car more torque when you accelerate out of a stop. Modern torque converters can multiply the torque of the engine by two to three times. This effect only happens when the engine is turning much faster than the transmission.

At higher speeds, the transmission catches up to the engine, eventually moving at almost the same speed. Ideally, though, the transmission would move at exactly the same speed as the engine, because this difference in speed wastes power. This is part of the reason why cars with automatic transmissions get worse gas mileage than cars with manual transmissions.

To counter this effect, some cars have a torque converter with a lockup clutch. When the two halves of the torque converter get up to speed, this clutch locks them together, eliminating the slippage and improving efficiency.

Not really no - they just have the flex plate then the torque convertor. I suppose the torque convertor could be thought of as a kind of flywheel though. The flex plate also has the ring gear on it for the starter motor to drive... ;)

bwahahaha!!!! :D here we go again ;)

If you try to reduce the weight of the word 'MASS' by removing the letter 'M' you do indeed end up with the word 'ASS'

;)

for what its worth I think you get a bad press too Nellie, you just make me laugh :)

Including the zed - so when cruising there is no torque converter loss. Works in 3rd and OD 4th and even in 2nd I think on some / all Japanese imports?

Also the mass of the torque converter must mean its at least as heavy as a flywheel.

The Ferrari 550 / 575 auto box had a problem reving past about 6000ish due to its torque converter - maybe wanted to centrifuge all its oil

I wonder if the auto zed one has any high rpm issues.

Mine seems to have no problem kicking down and reving to 7000ish - scares me sometimes - keep imagining what would happen if the timing belt goes just then!

has ne1 eva put a 300 engine in another car ??????????????????????????????
