Guest HemZ
Hi All, My GF's father had a private reg (he's passed away). He took the car it was registered to abroad to Spain and basically left it there in a friends garage to rot away. There's nothing left of the car now but we'd like to get the reg back in the UK. Initial discussion with DVLA have indicated that the car has to be in this country and we have to prove it to allocate the reg to another car (?) Can this be correct?? The DVLA reckon the reg is theirs if we don't prove the car is here and belongs to my GF.....surely we can just transfer the reg, they can't possibly send someone out to check....can they??? Cheers! Guest TT Tim
This is an interesting dilema. Yes, technically DVLA own the number, they have the right to withdraw it from you. I think I'm right in saying that to transfer a cherished number from car to car. the car that currenly bears the number must in fact hold a current MOT, the rules are different for numbers held on retention. Have a look on the DVLA site for more details. HTH Tim
Guest senna
Just take the plate off the car and hide it in the loft, when they come round just say you have lost it. Sorry ;)
Guest HemZ
Thanks for that. Looks like it's lost then. Ah well, that's the price you pay for fun in the sun I guess... Cheers, RobH
MarkTT
Hemz I know how it could be done. I have never done it but I know someone that has and it was successful for them. If your still interested send me an email Mark
