Hi does anyone know much about projectors.

I want to add 1 in my man cave for movies and gaming. Im getting lost within all the spec's.

The part of the room I want to convert is 18ft×9ft using 100" screen which is ideal for the wall.

From what I understand the higher the lumens and ratio the better? I want 1080p and possibly 3D.

I see that there are various screens from matt, grey and shiney whats ideal?

Also ive noticed that some projectors have different lenses some fixed and others adjustable for smaller rooms but nothing states the minimal room required to gain a 1080p picture on an 100" screen.

Any help would be great thanks Dan

These pictures include motorised projector lifts, Anamorphic widescreen lenses and automated screens and speakers, so quite high spec but great fun to install.

All rooms have lights on, this is an image produced in movie mode, 5% side downlights.

electrician to trade but usually find I can turn my hand to most things like that. plus built up a few favours over the years so will have plenty help to call upon lol.

the photoshop was just some ideas for it nothing was to scale. the seats are both 185cm wide so will fit. the screen size im getting is about 92" im sure which in a 4m room will leave space at either side. the wife keeps telling me to concentrate on getting the extension up and deal with the cinema room later lol

SteveE some of them look great - I'm just thinking, my how the other half lives lol

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

Yep defo how the other half live, but then without them I wouldn't get these jobs, so good for them!

The great thing about creating your own family/cinema room is provided you get the basics right, (screen, PJ, Audio, Insulation, lighting and cabling) then you don't need a big budget to get a good value result.

Some real nice set ups there. It can turn in to mega money! A friend of mine installs and sets up multimedia and cinema systems for a living.

He has pictures of his work that are unreal but so is the price tag of 40k plus.

I'm trying to stick to a budget that's already been raised twice lol.

I've done plenty of research on the equipment I've bought and now building the room to the best spec I can to get the best out of the equipment.

Bird..slush puppies are the way forward lol. I originally bought 12 different flavours and now have about 20 with a bit of experimenting :)

Only thing i would recommend on your setup is add at least 1 more 1.4a HDMi cable and stick in a couple of Cat 5e, you can use these for communication, control or just as spair for IR etc, you never now what kit is arond the corner or when or if a cable falls over!!!

Is it one of those machines that you had all the flavours sat on the front? I so need to get one.

What sort of budget does a decent system cost? Not the room and stuff

Thanks for the tip SteveE. I have since the pics installed two cat 5 cables and a hi definition coax that my friend gave me to install.

I've not yet installed another Hdmi cable but it is definitely worth thinking about to future proof the system.

Bird I payed £150 secondhand off eBay it's a single barrel type compared to most you see that are twin.

It doesn't have a bottle holder at the front either :( buts it's definitely worth buying one.

Wow that's the daddy of slush machines. Mine is similar to this single barrel but on a smaller scale.

It's does need tiding up a bit and I'm debating where to put it.
