Whilst my bodywork is being completed I wouldn't mind sorting out my interior and door cards from the greyish 80s sofa look to something good like black leather look to match my seats.

Question is what's best to buy and how would I go about it is there any threads relating to this as I know some of you guys have done this with your Zeds.

John.

Hi Mondo

Well I have leather interior and part of the door cards and dash are an awful grey material and want to replace it.

The thing is I would like to know how to do this and what is best process in doing so ie costs where to get material etc. I'm new to this but would like to put the effort into my car which I can say "I did that"

Thanks.

Whatever you plan to recover the panels in, I strongly recommend you use this adhesive to hold it all in place! Ordinary spray adhesive won't work as the high temperatures inside the cabin will make your handiwork peel off. :(

You can pick up offcuts of leather on eBay or Gumtree. Then it's just a case of carefully cutting to shape and attaching them to your panels. Sounds easy, but it can be quite tricky (doorcards especially!).

Thanks for your kind words bud. We do have a fantastic membership and its that that makes the club the place to be. Without members like yourself the place just wouldn't be what it is.. :)

I add my thanks to you all.

Ps. Your welcome for the help on giving rep mate :thumbup1:

I'm more than happy to help anyone, even if it means they won't be getting me to do the work for them...!

At the end of the day, nobody would really get anywhere if they didn't want to at least attempt things themselves. Anyone who wants to to do their own interior (for example) deserves encouragement and advice wherever it may be required.

Any more questions Alfie, just ask :)

Well I have received all my goods through the post and my question is when you are fitting the material do you use a heat gun to stretch the material to leave no creases round the corners etc....

is it real leather or vynil ?

Are you doing the door cards? I found it easier to heat up the old material as you take it off, it leaves the spongy material on the door card. Some material won't stretch, I used alcantara.

If you use a heatgun, you will distort and damage the black vinyl that's already on the doorcard!!

Crease-free corners are bloody tricky to achieve and need to be stretched and pulled into position. I tend to try and start at the seatbelt end of the doorcard and do the top corner first... get that secured down and then stretch the material across the rest of the large flat surface.

Even doing it that way doesn't always guarantee a perfect result though, sadly :(

Cheers for the advise guys I'm using vinyl and tried the centre console which has little creases.

Again cheers fellas.

Defiantly an art to perfecting this! Something I wouldn't try as I know I'd stuff it up lol

if you are using vinyl you need to remove the backing of the vinyl ... it`s like thin cloth ... that will help you to strech it and would not peel of in the heat. the best way to do it is by using a paint brush with a bit of acetone and just peel it off
