This is the best BT can offer me in 2011, the exchange is only 3 miles away, I live in a rural setting, the village is less than 2 miles long and 2 miles wide, not really a high traffic area.......... BT visited a few weeks ago to change the line pair over from a near by connection box due to a hum on the line defo seems slower than before with the hum! that said the engineer mentioned that the overhead copper cables were approx 30 years old and no amount of new technology in the exchange can circumvent that.

Is satellite still not expensive?

Not nearly as expensive as when I started. Retail £300 inc VAT for self-install

what latency are you talking about with it?

Our latest hub is around 500 - 600ms. Laws of physics mean 440ms minimum but we'll never see that. Last year's hub is typically 600 - 900ms but can be over 1,000 occasionally.

Is that your MAC address you've published??

B*gger :D Never mind, you'll have to get through the network to get at it

Pretty sure that'll be the mac address of the router mate, not the puter :D

Sounds like a challenge...

could you pm me the url to look in more detail?

I design layer 2 and 3 networks for corporates and sounds like an ideal back up platform?

latency is no good for thin client apps (Citrix etc) but as a back up??

Cheers and appreciated...

one website said 1.4mb the bt one said 2.21mb :wack:

Its defferant everytime i press test, just seen 3.4 wtf!!

Nearly right, of the bridge not the router but as you say, not the computer.

Will do. Some VPNs / thin clients work OK but latency is a prob for others as you say. OTOH, if the choice is dial-up / crap ADSL or you need redundant backup, it should be fine. PM on way.

Mine isn't good with Sky down a phone line but I have a package, no cable in my street like at my old property :glare:

According to Sky's own results

Download speed setting

Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to 1.0Mbps .

Upload speed setting

Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to 0.6Mbps .

Just running more tests from different or independant sites I am getting only 0.73mbps with an upload of just 0.42mbps, I think sky are being economical with their figures to say the least

Just ran this one

Funny you say about that, i have a customer who is currently at the Olympic park (the new one being built) and they have cable, latency is about 6MB down 2MB up, but the problem is, we run a IPSEC/vpn tunnel for them and thanks to that they get 300Kb/s up >

My home connection: 1501755312.png

You need to organise a a big ass truck to accidently knock that BT pole down !

I've been running off a Cable connection at home for some time now in my hometown of troon

and heres the speed test i just done which is fairly impressive in my books.
