last week driving back had overheating and plumes of white smoke so straight away i thought the head gasket had gone. Seems Hilux`s are quite common for the head to crack as well so i had to get it off and take a look to confirm. Had the head off within a day to inspect and here are the results below.

Sure enough a few cracks can be seen from the outside and probably more within and the amount of crap and gunk in the ports just shows how bad things were. Cleaned out the inlet manifold as that was caked in it and got on the phone to rough trax to order some new parts. Gasket set, bolts and a AMC cylinder head which inb the 4x4 world are outstanding as to buy a cheap one off ebay from taiwan or somewhere could just cause more dramas down the way.

Head fitted today and the truck is all back together and running within a day all on my own thats quick work :) Deleted the EGR while i was at it lol i love less mess in an engine bay

Amc wasn't cheap at all. All in its best part of a grand

 

To say that I had the whole thing rebuilt in a day and running is a lot easier than a v6 but then I wouldn't even attempt to do that with the engine in :)
