I thought formula 1 had struck a deal so you wouldn't have to pay for it in the foreseeable future ?

Absolutely gutted about this. I do have Sky Sports but that aint the point. The BBC coverage is superb - Sky will never match it.

Bloody adverts mid-race again??

Huh. That means I'll have to pay for a channel to watch once a month. Nothing worse than trying not to get told the result before they show the highlights

and knowing sky it will use the bend in every race a reason to show an advert

it's the end of F1 i can tell you

my wife was getting me tickets for next years british grand prix as a present.

Now not sure if there will even be one next year! By the time it comes round Murdoch will have been exposed for some scandal that will have thrown the sport into ill repute and got it shut down!!!!!

Before long all sports will be on Sky or something like pay per view. Paying the TV license is a ******* ****** ******* ** **** (fill in the gaps!) :)

I for one will be glad to see F1 go. I hope that packing off F1 to Sky will mean that there will be much more variety of racing genres televised.

Not to mention the cash that will be freed up for the BBC for other programming.

with the cash the bbc already get, why dont they just cut the wages of the top players there at the BBC, that will free up loads of funds.

to be honest mate, the licence goes up, the quality of the programs goes down, i cant see how you can honestly say that F1 is the contravening factor in that, bbc have more subscribers than anyone else with the licence fee, sky have just 9million subscribers, (thats not that many on a island that houses around 62mil people)

So lets do some math, say the average sky bill is around £70 a month (thats actually higher as thats basically all packages apart from either movies, or sky sports)

70 x 9million x 12 = £7,560,000,000

Now if everyone paid the BBC licence fee

which is £145.50

So 145.50 x 62million = £9,021,000,000

the thing is, the sky one is based on a high average. not everyone is going to be paying that, that does not include advertising space sales for obvious reasons. the BBC can save in other areas, like lowering wages for starters.

F1 doesnt get all its cash from the BBC deal, they have there own sponsors as well, plus investors, plus ticket sales, plus merchandising.

Football and Cricket and so on have all gone the same way. I'm sure all the current whining will be short lived.

And it pretty much is all about the money it costs for the BBC, as all these sports are going commercialised the exclusive rights are all going to go to the highest bidder. They don't have an unlimited bugdet, and lord knows the bodies behind F1 would take them for every penny if they could.

Just to put it in perspective, how would you feel if your license fee rose because the BBC paid mega bucks for exclusive rights to show something you're not even interested in?

If you want to watch F1, pay for it. Or go to the pub.

Yep, Just a tiny tiny drop in the ocean. The BBC is just one of many broadcasters that pay for TV coverage in over 200 countries worldwide.

and Income from Media broadcasting is just a very small part of the Multi-billion pound industry that is F1.

I already pay my license fee for 99% of programs Im not interested in.....can i get a discount for all of them instead ?

The Fee the BBC pays equates to less than 1% of its current TV and Radio program expenditure.

Recent BBC viewing figures are at about 6-8 million a race, a 10 year high.

wish they would axe more mundane programs like eastenders, and a few other programs i dont watch (would name more but frankly cant stand half the crap they stick on BBC) the only real programs i watch on the beeb are F1, and anything with Sir David attenborough in, and top gear.

why should my 145 a year, have to pay for just that? when i don't watch any of the other crap, Easterners is the most depressing program Ive ever had the unlikely pleasure of ever laying my eyes on. hell every year you know what the story line is going to be come Christmas with that program, its either someone dieing, someone dieing, or someone dieing.

we have lost all our sports from what people call free to air tv, which is amazing as its not free to air on the BBC due to the licence fee.

The concern I have for F1 over this is with Sponsorship.

F1 relies heavily on sponsorship investment, which relies on reaching large audiences - if audiences drop then so does Sponsorship.

How many viewers will F1 lose becuase of this ? A lot of the more casual watchers will not want to pay for Sky sports if they dont normally have it , and many F1 fans are going to be relunctant to pay extra.

Let alone those that dont even have Sky at all, which is a substantial investment and hassle if you dont already have and not previously wanted.

No doubt somebody will post it pretty soon after the race has finished then you can download it and watch it for free. Just don't watch the news or talk to anybody till then!

myp2p does let you stream it live if another tv broadcaster is streaming it to the web, but only IF someone is streaming it to the web. its free as well

Well we have till next year to sort summat out cos I'm not planning to get into golf or cricket or whatever else they show to try to make it worth my while getting sky sports. Maybe fireman mud wrestling might do the trick :-)

They should stop paying bloddy Graham Norton so much then we might get to keep our F1!!!

Is Graham Norton on the bbc now then? I thought he was still with channel 4!!

Shows how much i miss out on when i am at work.

Maybe i should watch more tv :death::death:
