Hi, Bought a couple of heavy duty hinges, as you can see, the plate is bent around the pin and folded back on itself, my question is, what are those square holes on the support bar and return ?

they are for coach bolts which need to go right through gate for support

I would of said for Coach Bolts with a square retainer head.... like this...

 

 

Or at least along those lines anyway...

If you are hanging a 8 foot gate or a 3 foot gate for that matter, I recommend these adjusters for the bottom as over time, just ask your wife, things will move :tt2:
