Funkysi Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Because they are cheap Chinese shit with bouncy spring rates. GC coilovers are the best of the 'not quite real coilovers' setup. Quote
Dutchy Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 tein is a recognised and respected manufacturer of suspension parts, not sure about those ebay numbers, never seen them before. Quote

Guest wozzer Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 that's a big NO bud ....!!!!!!!! @ $24.99 ...... just don't.......;) wozza ... .. Quote
Funkysi Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 The states. GC coilovers use Eibach springs. I'm considering fitting them to mine and taking out what I currently have. Undecided if I want to go a little lower than I currently am. http://www.ground-control-store.com/products/description.php/II=64/CA=93 Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks, Look nice not that you'd see them on:) Only lowers it up to 2.5", is that enough? Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 also do I have to change shocks before I get any of these? Quote
Funkysi Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 2.5" is like 60mm! That's plenty. Any more and the car would simply be undrivable. This is the sort of thing you get with Ground Control.... Baring in mind this car is tricked out with Powertrix adjustable geometry and some cool spacers. Something you'll need, well, you'll need the adjustable camber arms, tension rods and some new shocks. KYB AGX are the recommended. Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Ok, what about cheap brakes? What second hand callipers can i get? Quote
Funkysi Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I'd budget for the following if you want to do the job properly if you don't, you won't get the look you won't AND you'll get terrible tyre wear. GC coilvers £250 KYB AGX shocks : £300 Powertrix adjustable front camber arms : £200 Powertrix adjustable tension rods : £120 Powertrix adjustable rear camber arms : £150 Full laser geometry setup (castor/camber) £120 Total = £1140 this won't include the fitting of them either. Make sure you budget around that amount. Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 no cheap fix then :( Fitting wont be a problem, I'll do that myself:) Quote
Funkysi Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Nope. If you're going to uprate your suspension, you need that lot as a minimum really. It's similar to what I have and I didn't fit coilovers. Unless you can find a GB or second hand parts. Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Looks like it's goning back to the wish list for a while Quote

Guest Coopers-SWB Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 You probably want to go somewhere between the two guys above. Wozza can't get his car over a match  and Si just wants to get the looks right. Thing is not to scrimp on this product. As silverbullet about some of his products, do a search and you will find some pictures of broken bits. As for the brakes there are several options, refurbish the ones you have with good pads and disks, Get a big brake conversion from smithy GTR 33,34 skyline brembo callipers and sundries. One of the very big brake kits that you can find on the web. Darrell Quote

Yep they would do. Andy used to be a trader on here as well so has a fairly good rep. You need to ask how many miles they have done etc though. You never know he may have all the other stuff off the same car as well. Darrell Quote

Good price those! Darn! They came at the wrong time for me. If I hadn't just fitted my Tein S-techs, I'd have had those like a shot. You can at least start to amass parts. It's something I do. Just buy things in dribs and drabs then when you have everything, go ahead and fit it! :D Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 This is all your fault cooper-swb Driving behind you that day I could see how much better it went round corner, then when you brake I really had to slam the brakes on as I thought I was gonna go into the back of you! Quote
stellaZ Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 good sets do come up on ebay now ad then, you just have to have will power and save the cash and have it handy ivejust paid £415 for a set of tein monflex wich are VERY good condition Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Funki, Thats what I did with the boost controller and chip and also the sound system. Not much fun though as you just end up spending money for ages without any results :( Quote

I do still however have a vibratio problem under breaking which I need to sort out still. Bushes or bearings I think. Mine might go round corners but I do have to visit the dentist on a regular basis as it seems to rattle me fillings out on these great roads of ours. :D Good luck sorting the stuff out. I will keep an eye out on ebay for you. Darrell Quote
Zairs Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Its always better to make it round corners than enjoy the ride. Must say that a firm ride dont bother me much, It just cost so much more to do anything on the z to any other car I've owned Quote
