On the way back tonight and had a bit of belt squeeling, then the alternator light came on and loss power steering.

Had a look and the crankshaft pulley has almost come off!! It is at an angle crashing into the crank case sending iron filings everywhere.

Has this happened to anyone else? All I hear all the time is people having trouble getting these things off - not them falling off!

Guess I need a new one...

Cheers,

Sounds like it was installed without the key in the crank - make sure there is one there when you refit it ;)

Thanks, I will remove it all tonight and check. The engine was replaced a few years ago so quite likely some bits got left out.

Hopefully, it will all just bolt back on.

paulbrem: Thanks, once I've had a look I may take you up on the offer.

Cheers.

The key is a woodruff key (sp?) and stops the pulley spinning relative to the crank. Without this the pulley will try and undo the bolt itself as it turns backwards on the crank. Guaranteed you will now not have one there now, whether it was there in the first place or not...

Sounds like a useful thing to have. I'll see if I can acquire one. Other than that a couple of nails hammered in should do the trick eh :)

Yup, you were right. No key there now. There was also a chunk out of the crank - so probably why the key fell out (or was disintegrated). Read one of your former posts though and will apply the liquid metal and a new key. Hopefully, it'll last,

Thanks,

Think I have a spare? PM if you need one.

Hi Paul,

Yes, I could do with a replacement actually. Mine is knackered!

What do you want for it?

Sorry but my subscription ran out last month (just realised when I tried to PM), just tried to renew but paypal is playing up. In the meantime could you email me at daz_zed_300@yahoo.co.uk please?

Cheers
