Been Busy With A Polisher ...

Recommended Posts

Engine,s coming out soon to replace ;

Tubs

Rocker cover gaskets

Rear crank seal

Core plugs

VVT springs

Fuel lines

Vac lines

Fit painted timing covers and throttle cover and sort anything else we spot , it,s all getting a damn good clean so i thought it,s an ideal time to do a bit of extra blinging .

Throttle bodies need a bit more work but it,s getting there

Thats cool, how long did it take you?

Hey what about painting the throttle bodies the same colour as the throttle cover plate.

Got it last sunday , been working most evening,s on it

Not a bad idea on the T/B,s but i,ve got stainless hard pipes with blue sleeves , think that,ll do nicely

I used a D.A sander , started off with 80grit to remove the casting finish , then used 180grit and finally 320 grit , polishes up quite easily from there , the only fiddly bits are inbetween the pipes , i used a belt sander on these ( similer to a power file ) and smoothed them off a bit by hand with the same grades as before , don,t get me wrong it,s not perfect in there but you don,t see much of the inner edges of the pipes anyway and the nooks and cranny,s in the centre of the plenum,s covered anyway

Well worth the effort if you like the bling factor :D :nana2:

please explain what to do after sanding the item please for us lesser able!

ie polishing the thing after sanding, and how to go about it, brilliant job you done there.

There are variuos polishing kits about , this is from Frost Automotive , they do alot of gear for car restoration .it,s a kit of different size polishing wheels which are made from layers of cloth sewn together in various thicknes,s and also a block of compound which is the stuff that actually polishes the metal up .

Just put one of them in an electric drill , whilst spinning coat the wheel in compound and get polishing , i found for the final polish to use Solvol Autosol brings a nice clean shine to things.

For small items i mount the drill in a vice and polish items against it .

This is the kit below ( borrowed off a mate by the way  )

Also in the box is a fuel filter for the zed which i,ve also blinged

Nice job! :) I've done a couple of these before and you don't attempt it if you're overly attached to the skin on your knuckles, lol! ;) BTW, if anyone fancies treating themselves to an early Xmas present I'll have a polished plenum complete with polished TB's and throttle linkage for sale from next week, just drop me a PM (strangely, I'd polished it ready to turn it into a table but now changed my mind and doing something else instead! :D ;))
