The rebuild has finally started today and so far in a few hours I've managed to completely strip the interior.

I was searching for about 6 months before I found this Z32 for sale. Doesn’t have any written history with it but it was imported around 2004 as shown registered in January 2005. It’s only had 3 previous keepers.

It’s LWB, Twin Turbo, manual targa too currently showing 93,000 miles roughly but apparently the first 70k is actually KM and the last 20k in miles so approximately 63k miles although I can’t verify this.

The previous owner to me had the car about 3 years and had the sills and arches replaced due to rust and then had it resprayed in a Mercedes Black. It was originally black anyway. The car has some Brembo brakes off an Evo 8 on the front and a large wing on the back.

Interior is standard grey velour and is in really good condition, has a few interior pieces that have cracked but everything works! Has a double din radio installed with car play which is cool but the fascia is a single din that’s been ‘modified’ for it to fit. I’ll need to get a proper double din one at some point.

Engine is stock, although it has a Mishimoto radiator and an open cam cover so has obviously had some work done at some point. Also has some aftermarket HID’s I believe.

The wheels are Axe, I don’t know the model, but are 18” and 8.5j all round.

It has a very light oil leak but runs and drives really nicely, no crunching in the gearbox and pulls nicely.

	Initial Plans

As I don’t have any history with it, it’s going to Jimmer for a full service, new belts, new gearbox oil, diff oil, filters, the works. If anything else needs doing then I’ll loook at that. Probably a rear main seal too but I’ll wait and see what Jimmer says. That’s happening at the beginning of May.

I’m having the brakes changed to R33 Skyline callipers as the current setup means it’s hard to find new wheels to fit.

On to wheels, I’m choosing a new set soon to replace the current ones as they are in poor condition!

Im planning on ordering a new wing and some other bits from Z1 and will get them fitted by a bodyshop.

I’ve got a set of 99 rear lights and centre panel read to be installed, bought from Z Centre, which will look great. Just need to get round to fitting them.

Depending on how much money I’ve got left I’m planning on taking it to get the underside stripped back, rust treated and under sealed to give it some protection.

The long term plans for the car are about keeping it relatively stock with a few nice upgrades, OEM+ If you like. I’d like to redo the interior with Alcantara.

I might look at upping the power in the future as well but probably no more than 400bhp as I want to keep this as a nice cruiser for weekends and to take to some shows.

It’ll live in my garage and probably be mainly a summer car!

I was expecting to go off and find another car and have fun working on.

But I couldn’t shake the 300ZX bug.

I don’t think there’s another car out there with as much bang for the buck and you just don’t see them around anymore.

So I started looking for a new one. I knew my budget wouldn’t stretch that far so was looking for a project of sorts, but not one that was too far gone.

A lot of the cars I was looking at were too expensive or too far gone.

While putting the feelers out, I got a message from John who had a white, UK Twin Turbo sat in his garage that had been off the road for a while.

One evening a few weeks back I went down to view it, it was about 2 hours from where I live and if I’m honest I thought it could be an option but had another one lined up to view a few days later as I was concerned about how rough it would be.

So, turned on the sellers driveway and it was sat in the garage and looked way better than I expected! It’s not perfect but is a really honest, genuine car. Only 4 owners, has been owned by the current one since 2011 and has barely covered 15k miles since 2004.

Started up on the money, ran smoother than my old one and I was sold!

It has no MOT, needs some TLC and maintenance but I’m very excited to own another one and bring this one back to life!

It arrives tomorrow on a truck, I’ll post more photos, give some more info about it and go over my plans for the car. I’ll use this as a blog to show progress.

😁😁😁

Project Black Sunshine - The 300bhp NA

	Intro -

After more than 15 years of ownership, many great meets, road trips, and track days, my Fairlady is going through a full top to bottom rebuild. During many of the meets I discussed building the ultimate NA with Slick Pete as we shared the love of high revving NA motors. Almost everyone recommends going TT conversion or LS swap as the easy way to high power but I wanted something unique. So after securing some workspace with NickZ32 the tear down began. Its been slow going but continues to move forward.

Will provide updates as I pull together photos and details

As with most projects and rebuilds, they all start in the same place, mine was no different. However, this isn’t truely the start of my forever ongoing Z project. I’ve owned this car (my second Z) since 2008 when I purchased it from a former member. For the first 5 or 6 years I did the usual mods with suspension parts and basic bolt ons. For reasons unknown, whilst running stock boost, piston 5 cracked a ring land during a track day at Castle Coombe. A forged build and a remap later all was well until a sunny October’s day 2013 at Bruntingthorpe killed that engine with what at the time was a suspected head gasket failure at 181mph..... And this is where I shall start my journal.

The Z was stored off the road from Oct 2013 until March 2015. I’d had a major knee operation at the beginning of 2015 which meant I was going to be off work for 6 months. I’d saved up enough to start thinking about a parts list to rebuild her and frankly, after a couple of months of staring at the same 4 walls, I was going stir crazy! I employed the help of a good friend and decided to pull the engine and see what was what.... just a head gasket my arse!

March 2015

Problem 1: It turns out stainless steel, exhaust wraps and condensation don’t mix well

Before I’d even got the engine out, a new set of downpipes was added to this list. These AMS items were only 2 years old, so I was far from impressed! I contacted the retailer and after a bit of tooing and froing I secured myself a set of replacements for free... how long they will last, only time will tell!

So after 21 years of ownership the next stage of my journey with the Z has have finally started when the car was stripped

down and shipped off for complete glass out re-spray at the Club's favourite bodyshop. The garage feels *very* empty!

Later in the year the car will undergo the final stage of significant development in my ownership with the "bolt-on" engine

upgrades I have been collecting together over time. More about that later on.

My goal is for the car is to be OEM+ in the sense that the modifications and enhancements made to the car have always

been carried out with the overriding aim of preserving as much as possible of the original character and identity of one of the

best sports cars to come out of Japan. I like to think that the car will look and drive the way the engineers at Nissan given free

rein could have built the car without production constraints getting in the way.

Built in November '93, 1547 was the penultimate RHD car built for the UK market out of a total of 1548 cars recorded in Nissan's

FAST database. It may well be the last as so far I have found no record of 1548 being imported and registered in the UK.

I bought the car back in March '98 from Howards Nissan in Weston-super-Mare. The car was first registered in May '94

and owned by Nissan UK. My journey with 1547 started with this advert in Auto Trader and I became the second owner.

Fast-forwarding to the present, I took this picture as a memento when I last took her out for a blast back on a sunny day back in

February this year. The photo is deceptive as to the condition close up. Unfortunately after 25 years there are numerous chips,

scratches, shopping trolley dings and poor re-sprays (most of which happened before I bought the car from Nissan). I know how

the car will end up looking as the bodyshop has also repainted several other well know cars in the Club to an exceptionally high

	standard. Can't wait!

So this is my project rewind.

The OLD mission

To restore a 94 UK manual TT back to bone stock. However the car will be run as an OEM+ to include larger wheels and a double din radio with OEM part ready to be refitted for the right occasion.

The NEW mission

To build my dream OEM+ 300zx

History

The car was registered in May 94 and given as a company car to a banker.

In May 96 the banker bought the car outright and covered a total of 94073 miles. Throughout these years the car was serviced at a local Nissan dealer.

In December 2001 a registered forum user bought the car. At this point the owner, Mark, had intended to keep the car and started to customise it. These modifications include the flip paint job, 5 way adjustable shocks, Mania 18inch wheels, custom exhaust, larger brakes, poly bushes to the dif and rear subframe, helix clutch, cone air filter, deleted headlight washer, ICE and a top hard pipe kit. Mark covered a further 15883 bringing the total to 109956.

Marks For Sale post

The car

Overall the condition of the car seemed good. The body work had a few issues including rust in the engine bay near both suspension mounts, paint bubbling on the spoiler and a cracked off side mirror surround. However the biggest issue with the car was the colour! The finish was very VERY good and to stand next to the car made it much more agreeable than any photo achieved, in fact I actually quite like it. The problem though is matching the colour: after talking to a few paint shops their verdicts were touch up work is impossible (thankfully there is 1/2ltr of the original paint which I'm hoping will cover the new spoiler and mirror). Eventually it will need a full re-spray.

The interior is in good shape for its age, a few scuff marks in the leather and it's looking very dry, a hole in the centre radio surround where I imagine an alarm light went and the alcantara is looking very flat.

So I hope you enjoy the following updates as I try to bring my car back to the 90s.

Cheers,

Chris.

There is "some" history but nothing comprehensive. Mechanically, it appears sound - started on the button from cold and warmed up nicely with no noticeable smoking from the exhaust.

It appears to have had a new exhaust and 18" wheels - which will both, more than likely, be returned to stock (parts availbility permitting). There are a few mroe Z Centre bits of bling that will need to go as well - kick plates and chrome cials for example.

First order of business is a full 120k service and check over at Power Zed with any alarming issues being addressed ASAP. It is then my intention to follow an OEM+ style resto (no Fast and Furious fan here - Think more of a Kill Bill style Fairlady Z). I will probably re-trim where approriate (door cards are a good place to start) and ultimately look at a re-spray - silver was not my first choice, but I can see its charm...

Early days but am carrying a lot of hope and enthusiasm which will no doubt evaporate at some point!

Going to start a journal for my300zx manual TT import.

It's quite Rough. But salvageable ( although I have seen people brake ones in much better condition.)

Looking forward to it. already had a look over it. Bought it without seeing it move under its own steam. The engine sounds sweet and by all accounts the engine has been reported to have some forged items put in, with larger turbos and stuff. Although no documentation to back this up, but it's evident it isn't standard. I will look forward restoring it.

	History & Context

So since selling up my last 300zx in 2016, I've been out 'sowing my wild oats' with other, more modern sports cars in the mistaken assumption that newer (and more expensive) cars were obviously better! I had owned my last 300zx for 10yrs and during that time my friends had overtaken me in the prestige of their machinery and I was sold on the idea that the grass would be greener on the other side. However after a few years of driving and owning a range of other cars I came to the conclusion about 2yrs ago that it wasn't flat out speed, modern tech or price tag that really excited me but the analogue driving experience and quirks that I'd come to love about my old 300zx. And so my search for a replacement manual LWB TT began in earnest!

	The Search

Over the past 2yrs I have been scouring ebay, FB, Autotrader, Pistonheads and this forum to find 'the one' that I would keep forever. The search was slow and I wasn’t holding out much hope. Unfortunately the examples that did come up didn’t quite fit the bill or would involve a little too much remedial work for my appetite considering I’m not single and at the start of my career this time around but married with two kids and a mature career which demands much of my time. About 6mths into my search, I was recommended Josh at Gorilla Imports by Jimmer and Joel as a possible alternative option for sourcing a clean example. A quick phone call with Josh later, I was setup on Gorilla Import’s auctions portal.

Over the next 12mths, I was checking the auction sites religiously, on a daily basis. There were a (comparatively) huge number of 300zx in a range of conditions and coming up with some frequency that I was convinced that my next 300zx would almost certainly come directly from Japan! Having never experienced importing a car before I was quite apprehensive, especially with how casual it all felt at the beginning. The idea of buying a car without being able to 'kick the tyres' and handing over all the money to someone I'd never met was pretty unnerving so it took me a while to pay over the deposit to demonstrate my commitment and get access to the auction sheet translation service. Things escalated pretty quickly from here and before long, I had bid (and lost!!) on two lovely examples in the space of a week! Lucky I did though as I learned a lot about myself through the experience and my tolerance for risk…and so my starting budget went up by about 50%, just in time for ‘the one’ to show up!

	The Import Journey

As soon as I saw the auction listing I knew this was it. A 1999 version 300zx, something I hadn't even realised existed before seeing this one. I'd seen lots of Version R / S come and go but never one like this and how lucky I was as I'm not a fan of the Recaro seats the others had and was planning for a tan re-trim whichever car I ended up with. I got the auction sheet translated and an on-site visit by Josh’s ‘man on the ground’ who was able to share several photos and videos both inside and out. It looks to be in respectable condition but was listed as a Grade 3 (out of a max 5). The auction sheet and on-site visit didn’t suggest any major issues except for some hesitation from the engine. Josh assured me that all cars must get in/out of the auction house under their own steam which gave me some level of confidence and so after a short deliberation, I went in for a max budget bid….and then went to bed and tried to sleep which was a near impossible ask with the amount of butterflies that were flying around in my stomach!! Due to the time difference, the auctions happen during the early hrs of the UK morning so when I awoke, it was the best surprise to find that I had actually won! The date was Thursday 8 Sept, 2021.

The realisation that I had just won a car having never seen it in person and now had to stump up the full amount, knowing it could take weeks til I got my hands on it meant my excitement very quickly turned to apprehension once again and questions of “what have I done??” and “what if the car’s a dud?!” were flying around in my mind. A few days passed during which I made the full payment to Josh and he was able to confirm the car was cleared for transport. From the auction house it made it’s way to the port and I received a few more photos. This helped ease my mind massively as at least I knew it had driven there and was a real car (i.e. not a scam!) and the additional photos showed it looking pretty damn good! Unfortunately, this was when the waiting game really started. The date was Friday 17 Sep, 2021 (auction + 9days).

For some reason, despite the shipping delays due to the blocking of the Suez Canal earlier in the year and Covid of course, I was still expecting that the car would make it onto a ship pretty quickly. This was not to be and with each passing day I was again wondering whether I’d made the right decision. A problem exacerbated by seeing a few tidy examples of UK cars come and go on the sales sites here…and usually for less that I had paid. The car did finally make it onto a ship called the Sanderling Ace on Tuesday 26 Oct, 2021 (auction + 40days) and was scheduled to land in the UK on 16 Nov.

The neat thing about the internet is that you can find pretty much anything these days, including daily tracking of international freight shipping! So as you could expect, I had the browser page open and refreshed it multiple times a day, pretty much every day. You could likely also imagine my frustration when the 16th of November came and went and the ship was still on the other side of the world to the UK. In fact, freight tracking had its next stop as Jeddah at that time. Cue a flurry of messages to Josh to ask ‘wtf’ but at the end of the day, there was not much he could do about it either other than to assure me the car was real and it was on the ship and the ship was indeed on its way! It felt like a very slow end to the year, where the clock seemed to stand still on the import journey. On Sunday 19 Dec, 2021 the Sanderling Ace landed in Zeebrugge where the car was taken off and would await transhipping to the UK.

The New Year brought with it new adventure and on Tuesday 18 Jan, 2022 (auction + 132days) the car finally landed in Newcastle. I had assumed that from here on, the car would be in my hands within a few short weeks but it took almost a week for it to clear customs before Josh could collect it. From there, it made its way to Gorilla Imports where it would undergo a MOT and registration with the DVLA. And no surprise, this too was to be a rather lengthy process, largely driven by covid and a combination of understaffing and I suspect working from home at the DVLA. In the meantime, Josh was good enough to give the car a clean and take some photos and videos for me. In doing so, he also diagnosed that engine hesitation/vibration as a loose injector which once seated correctly, was fully resolved. I was finally able to let out a massive sigh of relief!

The following days and weeks were rather eventful with no real news or updates forthcoming. I was however grateful that the car was still with Gorilla Imports, tucked up inside as the weather had been atrocious with one storm after another! On Friday 18 Mar, 2022 the car passed its MOT and finally, on Tue 3 May, 2022 (auction + 237days) Josh confirmed it was registered with the DVLA and ready for me to collect!! Ironically, my schedule was manic in May and I had zero free weekends to travel all the way up from London to Saltburn to collect it but with some brainstorming between Josh and I, we managed to find a mutually convenient date and time for collection. After almost 8mths, I was finally able to see, touch and drive my new Fairlady and it lived up to all my expectations (despite being a stock engined auto!). The 5+ hr drive home was amazing, the sun was out, the car drove perfectly and the traffic around me seemed to part as I approached.

	Fun & Games

Unfortunately due to the time of my arrival home following collection, my wife and kids were not able to come out and see the car so I parked it up on the drive for the night. The following morning I took them out to see it. The girls (aged 1 and 4) had a hoot sitting in the rear bucket seats and I couldn’t wait to start it up so they could feel the exhaust burble underneath them. My memories of my last 300zx are fond though I probably spend as much time having to tinker and fix things as I’d spent driving it and so it seemed this car would continue that tradition, at least initially. On turning the ignition, the car turned over but refused to fire. I could see my 10yrs of previous 300zx ownership flash before my eyes, as well as images of my wife telling me not to repeat my past mistakes by buying another! The show and tell ended fairly abruptly and we went back inside where I’m sure I played with the kids amongst other things but really my mind was just going over all the possible things that might have gone wrong between my parking it up the night before and the morning. It was a pretty short list! I checked a few things but nothing stood out as being broken / out of place but upon turning over the engine once more (and for a little longer) it was my 4yrs old who asked me whether the car wasn’t working because it was leaking….? I jumped out pretty quickly to see a trail of fuel streaming down the drive. Fortunately AndrewG lives just around the corner and with his help a few days later we identified the exact source of the fuel leak and were able to sort it relatively easily.

	Future Plans

Since then the car has been cleaned and driven about fairly locally but due to a busy schedule and terrible weather, I’ve not been on any longer drives just yet but hopefully that will improve over the summer months. In terms of plans for the car, aside from a full service asap, I’m planning for a manual conversion and a PowerZed rebuild sometime down the line but am in no particular rush for either. My focus is to keep the car OEM+, akin to a few others in the Club like AndrewG and JoelyP. Most of all is to share my love of the car and motoring in general with my kids so hoping for a much better ratio of driving:maintenance with this one!

So I've been around the Zed scene in one model or another for almost 15 years now. Last owned was a 1995 Slicktop which I bought on a bit of a whim. Unfortunately it was a terrible time to own a project due to have new born twins when I bought it, doing a huge house extension shortly after, and then having another set of twins. Basically didn't have the time to dedicate to it so ended up selling.

A number of years later, no more wiser, and a bit of a tragedy later and I ended up buying another Z32.

Most people here will know this car, and know it's had a hard life. Over 15 years in the UK, never undersealed, and a sketchy service history for the past 5 or so.

Just about every panel is a different shade of midnight purple.

After discovering that the ignition barrel had been rodgered and that a screwdriver could start the car it was time to correct that before everything else.

So a full lock and key set was ordered from Japan. Ignition now fitted. Door locks to follow.

List of items to do (in no particular order) :

	13. Repair to front radiator mount (lower) - Done

	14. 120k full service to complete. Probably Powerzed, but it's a heck of a journey for me. Will see. - Done

	Hi All,

	I mentioned in various previous posts that I would start a thread about my new and first 300zx. I’ve copy and pasted an introduction that I posted in the newbie section a while back (with some updates) so you can get an overview of the car;

Almost two months ago at the spur of the moment I went and bought a lovely Jap spec blue 300zx TT Manual LWB with 98k miles.

	An over view of the cars spec is;

	- 390bhp tuned by ProTuner

	- stock turbos and internals

	- 800cc injectors, selin twin maf conversion

	- Kakimoto mid and rear section exhausts

	- aftermarket turbo elbows, downpipes, front pipes etc.

	- 98 spec fairly new manual gearbox

	- K Sport big front brakes, stock rears

	- Veilside Andrews racing split rim wheels in gunmetal grey

	- two tone grey/black leather seats, hicas lock out, fairly new polybushed rear end and BC Racing shocks. List goes on but that's some key bits from memory.

	- 98k miles

	- Has been very well maintained with a lever arch of service history from the previous owners.

I've got plenty of plans consisting of refreshing the car including modernising where possible to create an OEM+ look (no cheap chav bits don't worry).

	The Zed was booked into the bodyshop 23rd March but sadly due to the coronavirus lockdown, these works are now postponed. The works were to fit;

	- 99 spec front bumper

	- Respray to bonnet, both front arches to get rid of peeling lacquer, drivers door, rear bumper and getting rid of surface rust to around rear lights/boot

	- Replace side indicators with genuine Nismo clear indicators as existing clears ones seals have fallen apart

	- Fit new trims that were missing between boot and rear lights

I’ll have all this done as soon as the lockdown is over and the bodyshop is back open.

	I’ve got on the to do list the following;

	- Source a 2nd hand AC compressor and get it reconditioned and then installed as the previous item exploded under the last owners ownership

	- Full leather retrim as existing leather is cracking up/poor quality.

	- Get a double din music system trim kit so I can fit a nice double din screen unit with modern features such as bluetooth etc. and also change all speakers

	- Paint the stock rear Z32 brakes in black to match the K Sport fronts

	- Sills need re-doing as they have rusted in areas from where its been jacked up in the wrong location!! Paint has obviously been damaged and flaked off leaving the bare metal to rust so will get this sorted

	- Fit Michellin PS4 tyres when the current tyres have worn out

	- Probably go for more power in about a years time maybe but for now coming from a 2 tonne 270bhp 4x4, 390bhp is more than enough to make me giggle.

I’ll start a new post with what I’ve done so far with photos of course!

	Pics of the car when I bought it;

Finally getting around to making a thread for my Z. Wanted to get one going for my own sake just to track the history and changes on the car.

Currently the car is off the road and has been for the last year as I started a business in January 2021 and needed a sensible vehicle for that, not to mention not being able to afford running a weekend car while trying to get a business off the ground but at least I managed to save myself from selling it! It was my daily driver for a period prior to going back into hibernation thought. It has undergone some changes while it has sat in my garage, I think not being able to drive it tends to drive you to fettle! It is probably going to take a while to get this caught up to the current day but will update as and when I have some time.

The owner prior to me had a thread going which can be found below - but any core info and pics are in this post.

I actually managed to get in contact with the previous owner via email and they shared some old photos and confirmed some details about the car. Prior to him taking it on from a friend of his in 2011, the car had been stood after said friend damaged the turbo housings after a failed downpipe swap - I assume it then became a project that was never returned to. I believe prior to that it was owned by someone who was also personally known to the owner before me and was bought as a work vehicle from new. Pictures from its initial rescue from "barn find" state are below.

The previous owners intent was to restore the car to OEM state only and when I bought the car it was indeed standard all the way through - including the original radio, etc. They mechanically restored the car and had a body shop perform a full respray in 2011 too.

The car then spent event more time unused between the project completion by the previous owner before it was sold on and listed for sale by a dealer sometime in 2017. Once again it sat around, this time for sale at that dealership for a couple of years and I believe they originally had a very high asking price (at the time) for it - at least based on the comments on the Pistonheads article about it here: Nissan 300ZX: Spotted | PistonHeads UK The comments in the link also feature some input from the previous owner and someone else who knew the car.

So after nearly now 15 years plus of having both Zeds off the road, I'm Determined to get one back on the road this year. Been out of the Club so long and I'm guessing lots of the old parts places are no longer in existence. ( I was sad to see Mike Freeny had passed) spent many a long phone call with him. Zed tec which I know has finished was the start of the demise of my Zed been on the road. Having gone there for a forged and balance engine and upgraded gt28turbos.unothodox pullies. ported and polished head. When I finally got it back. It had a trip to john DIxon for a Greddy profic E-01 boost controller. Cant praise John enough he transformed the car and was very helpful. Is he still here? I know he was doing a V8 dry sump engine swap. There was somebody else doing that on here too, Wish I could remember his name. He was I a band Birmingham way. I want to say leigh but??

Any way, loving the new found power of the zed it ripped the flywheel. Trip to Zedtec and there it stayed for 20 months no matter of how many phone calls and visits it never got sorted. left out side which started the rotting of the sills and more. Finally got it back after it went to another place who Bought the Zedtec name and it needed loads spending on it for MOT , which at the time I didn't have, also family illness, it was put on the back burner and there it stayed. After a close call last year with the Grim reaper myself, I decided that I have to get my finger out and sort One of them out. The one has been garaged but is needing putting back together after a slight front end near side knock I bought it like that damaged, no Structural damage but I thought I'd save some money before taking it to the garage to be fixed and just never got to rebuilding it when it arrived back home, that was a big mistake.

So plan is to get it put back together and it would seem the place to contact is now POWERZED, so I will be contacting him this week to see what can be done.

I have no idea who is in the market or where to go for parts any more so any help on this would be great.

Going forward I think get my 96 2+2 back on the road for this year, and then see about getting the other engine checked over the winter, and doing a transplant as I think the body work on the 92 is too far gone.

Will keep you all updated on how things are going .

Took many items off my engine and have sent them to a metal polisher just a few miles from me and below are the results of his and my work :cool3:.

This is my aftermarket radiator bracket, it was or is stainless steel but now highly polished. The SLICKTOP plate was made by TwinTurboRich and I've had this powder coated and bolts on with some stainless steel allen capped nuts and bolts.

This is my Tokyo Auto cooling panel, original these come in silver or blue from z32-zone in Japan, mine was silver and the polisher told me it was anodized but now polished up as you can see. The logo was originally silver and riveted on, I drilled these out and had it powder coated, again bolted on using the same attractive stainless bolts.

Then the usual polished up water pipes, these will be used with red silicone hoses and mikalor t-clamps

Finally for this post, had my Altia sills polished, this removed many many scratches incurred from over the years, now I have a mirror finish.

I am wondering if anyone can help me .

I have 2 U.K. Twin Turbos both need work and I want to get both refurbished and need to find a workshop that knows the cars .

the first Is a U.K. car 1991 Manual not been started many years advised drove into lock up .

The second again a U.K. car 1993 this runs but has a misfire .

I had a yellow 300zx in with a specialist in Bristol in September he did a really good job and I had arranged to get the black one to him end of October however he has now said he is too busy which is a shame but if he does. Not want the cars I cannot force him .

There appears to be very few Specialists I am happy to send the cars wherever in the country if needs be to get them running right but ideally South East /West would be easier for me ..

As some of you have seen my Z gave up on me yesterday. After three years of it going from garage to garage, it lost power and covered half of Aberdeen in white sweet smelling smoke. Quickly pulled up and had my missus pull me back home. It has been years since i have been pulled by a rope and it is not a pleasant experiance. With the help of neighbours pushed back into the garage. Quick inspection today after work the front of the engine bay is all covered in fresh coolant. All hoses still secure on radiator and the hardpipes going to engine dry. Small green puddle inside radiator fan. Feels like the pressure have built up so high that it just started spraying through radiator cap, which is brand new Mishimoto one. Took the intake pipes off all clean no oil or metal residue so i reckon turbos ok. Checked oil dipstick. Oil is still clean. Coolant is clean aswell. Next step is to do compression test. I will use this thread to note all finding and progress. Any thoughts are encouraged and appreciated. It does feel like a major headgasket failure. Please bear with me as progress will be slow for the start.

	Hi all,
The car arrives in less than a day.
This whole week has really dragged by, I can’t wait to get stuck in tomorrow.

It’s been sat in a garage for 18 years, the sills and underneath of the car looked sound.
Plan for the worst, hope for the best. I’m fully aware there could be hidden issues due to the age of the car.

Once it’s up on four jacks I’ll be able to get some pictures up.

Major issues are, bodywork and the engine...

I have quite a list of things that need addressing and I know that list will get longer the deeper I dig. For now, some of these are…

Find out why the car was running at auction and did not when it arrived.

 Inspect cambelt.

Drain the fuel tank, flush lines and replace the fuel filter

Someones had the coils, both fuel rails, coolant hoses and inlet manifold off.

(Cranked the engine over and it sounds like it could be down on compression on a few cylinders.)

 Inspect the coolant system.

 Fit the new battery.

 Cold compression test.

 Check immobiliser functionality…

Inspect engine wiring harness and fuses.

Inspect injectors, coils and spark plugs.

	Bodywork:

Address rust around the top of the windscreen asap.

Find a boot lid (the spoiler has rotted the boot lid).

Remove lights, trims etc for a respray.

 Find a new windscreen.

Order window rubbers and rubber trips.

So here starts the journey. I guess we are all here for the ride. It will be a long one and hope that I can get the car moving under its own power soon.

I’m being very optimistic but I’ll try and get it in a state ready for an MOT.

	All suggestions greatly welcomed!

After owning this car for 4 years, things have certainly moved on in the last few months. Firstly, just before lock down, I went up and collected my interior from Si (this is now sat in my front room all covered up waiting to be fitted. Still have some wiring bits to finish off first.

I then decided I could not put such a lovely interior into a car that needed so much TLC, so pulled the trigger and had it resprayed. The colour choice was long and exhausting, going from all the solid greys that are so in at the moment, to a Porsche chalk and even avalanche grey. I have watched here and seen other's pain trying to decide on a colour that compliments the cars natural lines and also excites you when you see it. I eventually decide to stay with the original colour pallet "ish" but lift it little and give it more modern "j'en n'a sa que", a more OEM plus shall we say.

Well I guess you guys will be able to say if I have got it right :).

It is so much more in person (like a lot of colours I guess). Every time I go back to look at it, I think yep nailed it haha
